Burning Alpine Sleds!!!

Slow...

This week things are slow. The dismantling of the Seadoo turned out to be a two night job. I got everything shiny clean and spent a few hours measuring. I still haven't got a 100% plan but I built part of the intake. Tomorrow I will continue. Once it is done then the motor will get mounted. I think it may take a few more days before it can be aligned and then wired to run.

Guess thats the way it goes....

Slow and steady

Once again things are progressing slow. The intake is something I want to work. If it doesn't it is a major repair. I cut out the bottom corner to eliminate the factory alum which was a potential for restriction. I am going to shorten the front today 2 inches. The motor mounts touch the housing which I could fix but the shaft support bearing collar is going to be real tight and I don't want things to be that close together.... so... we have a new modification!!! Maybe the housing will be in the boat today. I hope!!!

Better

So I cut the intake apart again. Now it is 2 inches shorter. I trimmed it so I have 2 1/2 degrees positive angle on the pump mount. Then I installed the box on the intake with the mounting holes for the pump and framed it so the motor is 1 1/4 inches forward to clear the exhaust. I framed the bottom in for the intake to be welded in the bottom of the boat and give some extra beef.

I think tomorrow will see it mounted and possibly the motor and some other goodies.

Much Happier!!!

Nice boat build!!! I just finished up a Weldcraft mini with a 75hp motor. Turned out pretty good. I like jetboating almost as much as riding my sled...

Cap was glued. If you have ever had anything to do with the cap you would know it barely hangs on takes about 1/2 turn from inserted to tight. Bottom line shouldn't have to glue a threaded cap especially when it is NPT.

BTW the cap was tight when it left.

Bottom line is the tank is not certified... Same as in the Electrical industry which I work in, if the product is not UL listed, I can be held legally responsible if it burns or kills someone

Hows it work? I have the 650 rotax with an aftermarket head. Supposed to be between 80 - 85 hp. Mine will be a few pound heavier because of the roll bar and the pump guard/swim grid I just put on. Need the swim grid to pack extra fuel.

Didn't know welcraft did a mini!!!

COOL!!!

Thanks!!!

Good to see someone else see's my point. I like the sled. I just don't see how a business can put themselves in the position of not running the proper parts... and if they started doing it, why they don't make the effort to rectify it.

Alpine has a great sled!!! Fix the %^& TANK!!!

Sunday Rocks!!!

What a great day!!! I guess some sleep actually does go a long way. I slept in yesterday and today until 9:00 ish and had a good breaky. I feel like a new dude. Yesterday the intake got finished. Today I trimmed it to fit the delta and cut the hull and welded it in place. I finished the pump guard/swim grid. Now is time for the motor so I can figure out the cables and other small details.

Continued... sunday...

So here is the rest of sunday's progress. I'm stoked!!! Maybe it will actually get done and run!!!!

Ya you bet. I do a lot of jet boating and have had a few. My big rig is an Outlaw Clearwater in the 22 ft version with steel plating on the bottom. It runs a Hamilton pump and a 496 CID Fuel injected Kodiac. I love my boat like I love my sleds, bikes, jeeps etc. I have a couple buds running some killer boats. One had one of the Eagle race hulls with somewhere around 750 HP powered by a 427. I rode in it... not to say it was nothing but CRAZY!!!

I used to get some of the videos from some of the national events and a few international ones. These days u-tube has pretty much everything on it. The Snake river and the Salmon along with a ton of others. I have watched numerous vids. It is kind of like sleds... some totally awesome drivers running amazing equipment in some radical environments.

I stumbled on these "little boats" over a year ago and vowed to build one. Since then I tried to contact some of the guys running them to no avail. This spring I decided if it was to happen I would have to design, layout and build my own.

So... here I am. The build has gone beyond my expectations. Only minor trimming and adjustments have been made. I purchased a 650 bombardier seadoo and the drive train is about 1 day from coming out and being prepped to move into my little boat. I suspect it will be lots of power (80 -85 hp) in such a small boat. My only concern is the cruising speed which can be altered with impellers if it has enough power. It may end up with more in the 120 hp range...

Time will tell!!!:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap
Hi can you build me one??

Wow!!!

Hi can you build me one??

I've had some pretty amazing feedback on this little rig. Thanks for all the awesome comments. Honestly, I need to finish the first one before I do anything else. Once it is done, I may look into certifying a hull to sell. My bro and a couple of my buds are going to build a couple more home builds so we get it right before anything happens. Once we establish whether it is worth messing with and it works, then consideration will be given to selling some.

Till then... still picking at it!!!

COOL!!!

Works great!!! Mid 30's upstream & a bit over 40 down. Weldcraft built a few of them in the 80's, not a lot of them around. Most of them came to the interior of AK. Here is a video of the first test run. :peace:

Thanks for the video. Was entertaining and educational. What does the boat weigh? Just wondering how it will compare to what I have. I am trying to keep it in the 500 lb range. I have a feeling it is going to be a tad heavier but I don't know how to get rid of anymore weight. I want an engine cover to keep noise down and water out. It's probably close to 50 lbs. The rest of the boat is going to be close tho...

Progress

So I have missed a few days here trying to get this project under way. I will continue to post pics as the job has progressed.

Still moving

Getting closer. It seems like I am jumping around a bit. I guess I am to a certain degree. Some of the small things require I move to something completely different to them figure out. Others require I take a break and think about them and some things just keep my interest going.

The seat colour will change. I went looking for fabric. Apparently the fabric shop that used to be here is gone and Walmart got rid of most of their sewing department. The only thing I could find that was big enough was a curtain. Some of the better colours were covered with flowers and butterflies and .... anyway, this was the better choice.... . When I get to Edmonton I will pick up something better... black or white???

Up to today

So, this is up to the end of today. I got my motor mount today so I will continue to do the detail work and once it is done I will align the motor and pump. Then I can weld up the intake completely. I am not far off. I have to remove the fuel cell so I can weld the two bilge pump brackets in place. I have the drivers panel to finish on the engine compartment and the centre panel. Wiring need to be done. Bateries need mounting. It has no steering wheel yet so I have to fab one small enough and the throttle is an issue I have been contemplating for weeks. The UHMW will be easy once the motor and everything is mounted properly.

I am hoping to be complete and running in a week. Maybe I'm dreaming....

A guy needs to have dreams!!!
