Burandts Back Country Adventure

Look at Dan's link. Bottom of the home page. Forest service permitee. If Chris had a permit you would certainly think he would put it on his website, since that is the most important part of his biz. Imo Backcountry adventures is operating by charging people a hefty daily fee to stay at his resort. That seems to be how he is getting away with taking people for a "ride". Seem's like the Forest Service will catch on to that. Time will tell...I wouldn't want to pay the fine and or restitution on all the money backcountry adventures has made on forest service property if they get caught.

Ok, my $0.02 at the risk of sounding like a "nutswinger" (I've never even so much as met the guy either) ....

But are there any legitimate commercial and legal concerns surrounding this? The USFS obviously knows what he is doing otherwise he wouldn't be doing it.... I can't possibly imagine he doesn't have his bases covered.

I guess I don't understand why everyone is making such a big deal out of it.

You have a viable source that has stated that it is a legal operation. Let it go.

For those of you who have not been on one of his adventures it is far more than a guide service. It is a clinic that drastically elevates your abilities as a rider. He and Sahen are great teachers and do a good job of pushing you without putting you in a situation where you are unsafe. It does not matter what caliber of a rider you are when you get there you will leave a better one. The longer you can stay the better; you will be challenged with new types of terrain each day that allows you to apply the skill set you have acquired from the previous days ride. Having said that I would strongly recommend you endure a rigorous conditioning regiment prior to embarking on one of his rides. The pace is intense and I don’t’ care who you are or what you ride you will get stuck, that is just part of the learning process.

I would also recommend that if it is possible for you to take your own sled do so. Most of the acquired skills are universal amongst all brands but it is always better to apply these to the sled you ride most often. You will quickly learn that set up is the key. Yes hp is nice and can often get you out of a bind but these guys pull the same stuff on stock sleds as they do on their mods. If you don’t believe me book an adventure and he or Sahen will show you. If you are lucky enough to ride a sled that Chris or Sahen is familiar with they are more than willing to share some tricks of the trade with you. However, if you just want a chance to ride some of the badest mod sleds out there, there is something to be said for that too.

I could go on and on about how great my experience was but the fact of the matter is if you can afford it and want to be a better rider you should do it.

He HAS a permit.

SWEET!!

Good to hear that he finally got it done!!

It wasn't stopping ME from recommending him, but it just makes it that much better to know that he's following the same rules as everybody else!:face-icon-small-hap

as for "legitimate commercial and legal concerns"... yeah, a guiding op in CO working on USFS land without a permit is a legitimate concern. Stoked to see he was able to work with the stinking forest circus & get it done!
