Burandts Back Country Adventure

As for the question of if he has a permit or not, people SHOULD give a crap about whether or not their guide is legal.

VERY VALID point....even if Chris was up to date and carrying insurance, you can bet you ace that if something happened where a claim was made against his policy and they found out he did not have all the proper permits, etc then his insurance wouldn't be worth butt wipe. Not to mention a crappy lawyer could shoot holes in paying for shop time.

Not ripping the guy or his business, just some points I got while reading.

Oh and I know 2 guys who went and rode....said it was fun but tree riding is tree riding and not worth the drive for them. Then again they have been riding trees in north ID for 20 plus years.

For me I don't really care if somebody has a permit. How does having a permit make somebody a better guide on our public lands. If I rent a sled from Chris and he wants to show me the area he rides why would a permit be reqiured. Just wondering things in Ak are maybe different.

Because someone poaching guiding on public lands is only minutely different than someone poaching wildlife on public lands.

For reasons... look at X's post. Maybe it's different in AK, but it's illegal here. (again... ASSUMING he doesn't have some other arrangement that we don't understand)

Like I said above, WE care because we know people who have tried to work with the USFS to be a guide & it is not an easy process. Me, I'd LOVE to see more people being able to make a living guiding, it's a win win kind of thing to me! (and I don't mean a sally *** nose to tail trail ride guide!!)

Again, I'm NOT AT ALL against Chris, hope he stays BUSY AS H-E-double hockey sticks!!!!

Well I guess the quickest way to the answer would be call the forest service in your area and ask. But that is just me:face-icon-small-hap

Correct me if I am wrong but I think it is like an escort service, you pay to hang out and have $ex because you want to. You pay for shop time/sled rental/cabin rental and ride with him because you want to. Nothing "wrong" with that. Escort Services are legal so this must be. Just my $.02

Well im guessing that without a permit chris cant carry insurance, and if someone were to get hurt and sue him over it, he would most likely lose his job and maybe get a large fine for not being permited correctly. Did anyone ever find out if he was permited or not? Maybe Burandts backcountry is not where i want to be, the back country clinics look cool and legal to lol. If anyone has new info on this subject i love to hear it! Thanks guys.

i think you hit the nail on the head.....personally i wouldnt give a chit. would just like to ride with the best mtn rider in the world. if i get hurt riding with him the only thing im gonna sue for is some time on the stage 3 dragon!!!!!!

to the best of my knowledge he doesnt need to carry insurance on the individuals that ride... he is not responsible for their own stupidity. there is insurance on the sleds, and i highly highly doubt that anybody who goes to ride with chris would sue him over their own stupidity of getting hurt... those arent the kind of people that go on these trips. when you rent a sled from a sled rental you dont get health insurance with it... same thing applies here. you are renting a sled... not renting health insurance

i've rode with him for about 9 days in total in the last 3 years. it's always the best trip of the year. if you're from canada i definitely recommend getting health insurance for the trip. it's only about 20 bucks for a week of coverage. I'm also pretty sure that you will sign a waiver that says that you can't sue (rightfully so).

If you bring your own sled - then what are you paying for??? You simply cannot opperate on the ASSUMPTION that nobody will sue. That's begging for it to happen. I guarantee you that if his trips are on National Forest Service land, then a permit is required, and if you don't carry a fairly hefty amount of insurance, you won't get a permit. It's pretty clear cut from what I've been able to research.

IF YOU GUYS ARE SO WORKED UP ABOUT THIS ISSUE... HOW ABOUT YOU PUT A STOP TO ALL THE BS ON THE FORUMS AND CALL HIM! I FOR ONE DONT GIVE A CHIT. call him up and talk to him, email him whatever.. and when you bring your own sled you are still paying for him to show you around... paying to be able to ride/ hang and hang out with some of the best riders in the world. that is what you are paying for, not to mention to stay at his lodge and get meals, way cheaper than you could stay at a hotel for

Whoa, easy there. I don't think anybody is worked up except for you. Maybe another thread should be started that does not refer to Chris' opperation directly, but to the general issue of what's required for a guiding opperation? It does seem like the discussion has moved more in that direction.

Thank you sled solutions!!!Now everybody, no more permit, insurance related talk. Strictly riding and Jskinzer, I agree but still it was a good question, also CorpEleven good point I agree with that to but now I would like to talk more about riding. SledSolutions I know you guys have rode with Chris any info, pics, vids maybe?? Thanks in advance.
