Burandts Back Country Adventure

Hey All, Its been my life long dream to ride with Burandt but still havent got to yet, so.... If any of you have went with him and have pics post em up. Would like to see just how insane it is. Stories work to! Thanks in advance.

Have you had a chance to watch the Chris Burandt's Backcountry Adventure DVD's?

I thought that they were good - number 1 being the best (IMO).

You can find them on Amazon.com

I rode with chris and it was a great experience, only problem is we were always riding never had anytime to take pics.

make the trip! not only is it a ton of fun, but its a great experience for all rider levels, and it will definately change the way you look at tree riding

For those that have been a couple questions?

How excatly does it work with the whole rental of sleds/ guide thing. It was my understanding a permit was needed to run this type of operation in that area, one that I believe he does not have.

Just wondering if he is upfront about it and guests are just hush hush or do most not even care and never ask?

I would think this would also make it impossible for this business to carry insurance and leaves himself wide open for problems.

Fill us in on how this all goes down......thanks.

he has all the insurance and legalities of that side taken care of. as far as the permit that is needed the forest service has never done one of that nature, he has been working with them since day one to get one. but there are many hoops to jump through, he has told the forest service that he will do what ever he needs to do to get one. he also works with the FS in marking the wilderness area's so that sledders stay in there designated areas. in a way it is a hush hush he is just a friend taking friends out riding, but the FS knows, we ran into two FS employees with him when we were down there last year and they were both really cool, and excited that chris wanted to help them with whatever he could.

I thought anybody operating a business on FS property required a permit?

Doesn't the sled company operating out of Steamboat have one of these permits. I think it limits them to use of the trail though? I hear they pay a pretty penny just for that.

Just wondering because I have heard of others trying to run guide services in the same area but were unable to get the proper go ahead from the FS.

When I went we were paying for "Shop Time." Definitely worth the experience. Great food, great atmosphere I can't say enough about the riding either learned a lot from both Chris and Sahen. There is no hush hush when it comes to the adventure and the forest service. You will usually have a meeting after loading at the shop or unloading on the hill. He does very well about explaining the relationship he has with the forest service and what exactly your paying for. Just if you live close and want to save some money you can take your own sled or rent one. We were switching around all the time when I was up there. That's how I got to ride the 11 Pro RMK

Do you have an agenda or what? you out looking to get somebody? What do you care what he has and doesnt have as far as permits?
Just seems like an odd question to me.....

Seems weird to not ask questions.

No iron in the fire....only ride the area a time or two and usually late season.

Just read about a few others on here trying to open a legit guide business in the area and was wondering how CB was doing what others had failed at.

Why is it weird to discuss something like this on a forum where people might be able to provide answers?

If you want to be pushed, he's a great guy to go with, he'll find your level & push you past it.

As for the questions, I don't think Dizz has any agenda, but we both know people who have been stopped by the FS from doing this type of thing, but somehow Chris gets away with it, not sure why. Obviously there is more to it than meets the eye. If he was trying to be under the radar he would have failed long ago, he's not exactly, well... low profile...:face-icon-small-hap

This is a very valid question. I was under the assumption he had a permit. He's obviously not trying to hide anything, what with all the promotion and all, so the question is: Does he have a permit, and if not, how is he getting around it?

In response,
#1 not from what I've heard around here (from a few sources)
#2, not sure. perhaps he's applied for it & therefore has some form of temp permit? I'm not sure how that works. Obviously he's not running some fly by night op & going to get his custy's arrested, but if you look at the trailhead at some riding spots... it says very specifically that you should ask your guide if he has a permit...

The only reason I'm curious or care at all is that I know people who have given up on guiding based on the permit process or difficulty of dealing with the USFS.
Not trying to harsh on Chris, I just want to understand the process & figure out what he has done that others don't seem to be able to.

Well said, this is exactly why I would like to know. And I am in no way trying to bring trouble to Chris, in fact - quite the contrary - I'm looking at booking a bachelor party trip with him next winter for good sized group. I want to make sure it's legit.

We're all terribly sorry we've inconvenienced you...:face-icon-small-sho

I, for one, want to apologize from the bottom of my heart:lol:.

Sorry, those of us that live here actually care about how the guides interact with the USFS. If there is some magic bullet that Chris has, we'd like to know so other people can benefit from it. As for the question of if he has a permit or not, people SHOULD give a crap about whether or not their guide is legal.

LIke I said before (and also started a thread about at one point), he's a great guy to ride with! Even if chris wasn't there, the guys digging out make it worth most of the price right there!! It gave me thought to hiring someone to come along & dig people out... I'd pay $50-100 to not have to dig folks out for a day on a DEEP day:face-icon-small-ton!! As for pics... sorry, as others have said, it's not a sit & watch Chris ride fest, he's got you moving the whole time, no sitting, no BS, you're there to ride till you drop:face-icon-small-hap!!! (I'm a photographer & I took 3 pics the whole day!!)

A buddy and I went back in Feb. and it was the most fun ive ever had riding sleds. Both Chris and Sahen make you feel like you are old buddies. The food is amazing, and the riding will PUSH you the only time you have to take pictures is when you get stuck or eat lunch. Its worth every penny IMO, and I plan on going again this winter and im going to be in shape this time. Hope that helps.:face-icon-small-hap
