Buff Pass Parking.PLEASE READ.

First and most importantly, I'm all about everybody riding and I'm not looking to keep something that's not mine to myself.

Let's lay out out a scenario here, shall we. Let's say you live in the fine town of SBS or in the county for that matter. You leave your house, drive ten minutes to the Buff parking lot and it's full of trucks and trailers owed by people who drove an extra hour to park at "Buff" and the forrest service guys tell you, who lives here, to go to RE and park because the lot is full. My guess is, the first thing out of your mouth would be, WTF! The majority of these trucks and trailers drive right past the turn off to Walden and the multiple parking lots on RE Pass. Please be respectful to those of us who live in Routt County that want to use the ever so convenient parking lot that is really close to our houses.

I personally can't understand the logic to drive an extra hour to park in that really small parking lot with a big trailer when Buff is at most, a twenty minute ride from the summit of RE Pass.

I'm really not a jaded SBS resident, because if people weren't coming here to ride and spend their money, I wouldn't have a job. So, please keep coming to SBS to ride, just don't take your big trailer, that takes up 5 + parking spaces in the small parking lot, to "Buff" just so you can say, "we rode Buff today!".

Also, the majority of the people who ride that live in SBS don't even take trailers up there, so we have more room to park. I know guys in town that take their sleds out of their trailers and truck them up there just for that reason.

PLEASE PEOPLE, I'M BEGGING YOU FOR MYSELF AND ON BEHALF OF THE REST OF THE SBS RIDERS THAT DO NOTHING BUT B!TCH ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.

It's like that every where I have ridden, been boxed it at Albany cause some clown that decided to show up at noon wasn't happy the lot was full so boxed in 4 trucks (including mine). Centennial, Wy is worst. Burgess Junction (Bear Lodge, Elk View) is full of Minnesota/Michigan residents that don't know how to park, but they bring some big $$$$ into Sheridan. Encampment, Wyoming has almost half the parking that Centennial does. Wait till you get on a logging road in North Idaho (Roman Nose, Preist Lake, Look Out Pass). Sorry man, early bird gets the worm.

Fail.

4 trucks = 4 sleds or 1 truck and trailer=4 sleds. It's not as black and white as you think. Get there earlier and you won't have a problem

You're so far from true… Because of the layout of the parking lot, there is only so many places to park a truck and trailer before the trucks and trailers start taking up all the room in the top part of the lot. Plus, one truck = two sleds with a sled deck, which quite a few of us use.

If you do the math, I know, this is the tough part… A four door truck, the norm these days, and a two place trailer is 36 feet long, give or take a foot or two. That 36 foot truck and trailer that showed up with two sleds, parked where you can back up to the snow bank, takes up six parking places for trucks that are 6 feet wide.

So, 1 truck and trailer = two sleds which takes up enough space for 6 trucks hauling single sleds. You tell me which one makes sense… Did you forget about the tongue of the trailer, the v-nose and the fact that we don't have 12 foot long beds on trucks?

So when you go to restaurant or store thats out of your neighborhood I assume you park in the way back spaces or a different lot entirely to make it easier for the people that live closer? Yes that is exactly how ridiculous your original post sounded. I get annoyed by people that park like morons as well but if anyone is brazen enough to think that I'm gonna park in an entirely different lot in an effort to save a spot for someone that I don't even know then I think you've lost it. You said it yourself that its only 20 minutes to ride from ears to buff and thats "no big deal". Well then you should have no problem taking your own advice and riding from muddy creek or where ever.

At the end of the day its first come, first serve. If you don't like it, get there earlier.

Early bird gets the worm...right? Whats next, do you want people to leave certain areas untouched so you can get a quick afternoon ride in. If somebody gets up hours earlier to drive 200+ miles and they are still on the snow before you you don't want it that bad:face-icon-small-win

This can't be a serious post! I am pretty sure that lot is for everyone not just SBS peeps. Why would you think SBS peeps should have dibs on parking there? Imagine how early, and how much thought was given, let alone money spent , by people who were there when you arrived. Just because you live in SBS doesn't make it YOUR lot. Get real!

Let's lay out another scenario, Say I come up from where I live, stay at a SBS Hotel, Motel, Holiday inn..... eat at local restaurants, buy coffee and goods at SBS stores, fill up my truck and sleds at SBS gas stations. Do I have a right to park at Buff and access the good stuff sooner, or do I need to drive over to RE parking?
More, then likely Buff has become more crowded because of the influx of people and riders into the state. I know very few people that drive the extra distance to park at Buff on the SBS side when coming up from D-town. You can park on the Walden side too. Most of the people that park there came up from the west side on 131 or stayed in SBS. I grew up in the mountains and there are so many more people up there its crazy. Of course everyone wants to move in and take over and claim their local status , Buff Is the only place I have ever had issues with people, They were crowding me so hard I couldn't unload off the trailer. Of course they were some "new" locals with a sense of entitlement.

Since, I was born in Colorado does that trump wanna be local just moved status?

Or maybe I will do what I always do and just get up early to make sure I get a good spot. Even If I am driving up and right past RE parking, Buff pass has great riding.

On the subject of the early bird gets the worm.
I was at Vail Pass recently ,yet another place with parking issues. I was there early and riding by 8am for a short test ride. When I got back to my truck at 10.30am I said hi to the person parked right close up next to me. He said hi and told me that if I had parked more consideratly there would be more room for guys like him. I hadn't parked in a crazy way or anything but I must admit when I showed up at 7.30am I wasn't really thinking about leaving a special space or parking in a special way for some guy that gets there at 10.30am.
Bottom line, if sledding is a priority then get there early!

What? You mean you didn't leave VP parking lot to the "locals" and drive over to the Non-Local" parking at Camp Hale? Blasphemy!!

VP is about 15-20 minutes from my house. I've been riding up there for the past 17 years and I still haven't found my "reserved" "locals " parking space.

According to the rules it is called "Vail" Pass, from what I gather you are from Summit county and thus out of bounds. :becky: LOL

I have a sled deck on my truck and a 2 place inclosed that I put 3 in and I normally haul 5 sleds total. In the buff lot I always park on the side of the road and not in the lot, so I know I can get out without any problems. You are not aloud to back in on the road. My setup is 39' long, a 4 door truck is around 21' long. 3 trucks with sled decks to haul 5 sleds, plus space in between would take up more space on the road, so my math is just fine. When I go to the buff lot on the weekend I know it's gonna fill up completely so I get there extra early instead of late and being disappointed. Insulting someone will not get your point across any better.

LET ME GUESS SBS RICH GUY CRYING BOO HOO ....I LIVE 30 MIN AWAY FROM BUFF AND IT IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE.....DONT LIKE IT RIDE SOMEWHERE ELSE REAL... BACK COUNTRY IE.......RIPPLE CREEK....YELLOW JACKET...PIRAMIDE HELL HAHNS PEAK...SEED HOUSE...COLINBINE....JUST A FEW OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD JUST SAYING:face-icon-small-win

From a local's perspective, yes, parking is an issue, and I certainly do not believe I get a "locals" priority when it come to parking. Buff pass, Rabbit Ears, Seedhouse and others have always been limited on parking and can be frustrating even without a trailer at times. I've seen trucks parked right up to the white line on rabbit ears, making it impossible to park ANYTHING. We all want to ride those great powder days and long holiday week ends, and getting to the parking area first is an advantage, but there in lies the challenge. I'm not sure what the answer is, not sure a mall parking lot is best. I have driven up to Buff pass just to turn around and go look someplace else, just cause there is no parking, It HAPPENS. We all can't have premium parking, if you miss this week end, there is always next time. I think it just goes with the sport, by the time you get a truck, trailer, and a few sleds out and about, the real estate fill up quick. Don't sweat the small stuff, there are plenty of options.
