Brookings SD Lowdown

Moriarty may only deal with income based housing (ie college housing) but they have a ton of rentals and may own some more upscale apts. Mills is a very large family owned business, they have both property mng and construction ventures. They own everything from places that I wouldn’t take a crap in to pretty nice, new upscale apt buildings. I would start with those two since they are the biggest in town. If you find something shoot me a PM, I never lived in an apt but had a lot of fiends that did so I know which ones are nice and the ones that will have passed out college kids in the halls and parking lots. Housing has always been hard to come by in Brookings so a lot of new apts have been built in the last year. You might want to get on it now because that April time frame is when all the college kids are going to think about moving out of a dorm or on campus apt into something different. April-May and Dec-Jan are defiantly the months that a lot of things are opening up or becoming full.

Both Mills and Moriarty have apt rentals and after living in both I think the Moriarty ones are a little better place to stay. Like it was mentioned, you should really look at places to stay here shortly because now and just after spring break is when all the college kids start looking for places for next year.

I know there are also some other places in the smaller surounding smaller towns that have houses for rent if you are looking for something to stay in out of town.

Brookings has plenty of things to keep you entertained. Well it has atleast kept me entertained for the 5 years Ive been here. Like it has been said there is plenty of good hunting and fishing spots around along with a decent night life.. well on most thur-sat.

how short term are you talking for rent? if only a few months is what you are looking for, you may be able to find someone who signed a one year lease but will be gone for the summer and willing to sublease. if you are looking for longer than that, i would get on that soon. when i was there it seemed like most of the rental leases were may-may

Can any knowledgable snowesters fill me in on Brookings, SD? I have a decent offer to work there. I don't know a soul in the town other than the owner of the offering company.

All I can say is pheasants baby!!!!! I might move there just for that!!!!

Good Luck!! I grew up in southern MN, was born in Sioux Falls. I can't say I enjoyed living down in that area...but was a big farm community and our family own a clothing store. We moved up to the Brainerd area and I love it much more than open fields, just like the lakes and woods..:D. Heard the hunting is good though down in that area, so I'm sure you'll be right at home :) Good luck again!

If you are only lookin for a place to live for a few months I would check into finding a sub-lease for the summer. The house I lived in had 8 guys during the school year and me during the summer (my roommates were mommas boys)....they all paid rent and I never saw any of them all summer. I might be able to find you a really nice place to live for around $300 a mo everything (utilities, cable, ect) its in a nice part of town, house is less than 10 years old, garage full of toys, and avid hunters that live there...... its my best buds house that i used to live with while i was in college. He has an open room right now with plans of one of his current roommate buying it dec 09-jan 10 because he took a job with his dads company back home. PM me if you want more info.

weather sucks so far, seems to be a nice town, good people at work, pretty boring after work so far, don't really know anyone or anything going on, trying not to go to the bar is tough too.

about the worst snow removal I've ever seen. Doesn't matter if its a 1/2" of snow or 12", they DO NOT PLOW. It just pizzes me off, all they do is put down a crap load of salt, and after the snow starts to melt, our gravel roads at home dry out faster than the paved streets in town.

Well if you are looking for something to do after work this week the SDSU rodeo is goign on and I believe that it starts on thur or fri. If your interested in that type of stuff.
