Where is everyone else breaking them? These broke under the heat shield, on the post, and not on the adjustable part.

Just got done replacing mine. 1st one I've broke, but the 3rd one I've seen this season and all in the exact same spot as yours! Felt kinda lucky that mine broke seconds after an off camber climb. Would have sucked a few seconds earlier!

Great!

I just added a 2" AMP riser to mine too, so with the added leverage it will be even easier to break! They are still too low for me. I'd like a 4" rider in place of the 2".

I have been toying with ditching the VSB bars and going to a 4" Fastlane chrome moly steering post that's 4" taller than stock.

Is Arctic Cat warrantying the broken bars?

Is there a servcie bulletin on the subject?

AC doesn't warranty broken ANYTHING!!! I suppose they figure if it snapped then it's your fault!!

Frosty, the fastlane bars are great, but they're going ot be a bit soft when you add a 2 or 4 inch riser to them also. The nice thing about the fastlane posts is they'll bend & you can ride out as compared to those of us that have snapped the 09 post & have to get towed out with nothing to hold on to.

The 4 I've seen now have all been in that same spot. my 1st one was single instance, second one was fatigue, and it snapped right off. MPM added a tube inside mine & welded it back up, it feels great & I've hammered on it a few times, very happy now. (about 1/4 lb heavier though, better not eat that 1/4 pounder at lunch on friday I guess!!)

I had an AMP riser on for a few months before my post broke. I'm sure the extra height added to the stress, but overall the steering post is just plain weak. Poor design here by AC. I had my buddy weld my rebuild my broken one. He's a welder and basiacally cleaned it up, and added two sleeves around the weak part of the post. I've got another post on order and he's planning on strenghting that one before its ever used. Better safe than sorry. When I get it I'll post some pics.

"AC doesn't warranty broken ANYTHING!!!" Odd we have not had a problem with warranty up here. Sounds like a dealer problem. Dealer just blames Cat. The easy way out. Maybe why Northern Power Sports was the #1 Cat dealer in the US this year:D

hey, thats my sled, the post broke cause i bent it in a slam, then I tried re-bending, then bent it again I re-bent again and 2 months later it broke!

Maybe they will recall em?????????

the steering post is only $56.00 but its on backorder till middle of summer.

I was looking at a 2010 hcr and a sp, and the posts felt really loose compared to my non adjustabe with a 3" riser. I would say ac had better come up with something better before someone gets hurt, they felt real weak and i am glad i never spent the money on the adjustable now.

AMEN!! Great customer service and great folks

Being new to Cat, this concerns me (if it's true)

I have to ask, even if it's an inherent design flaw or material selection issue?

It sounds like it's only a matter of time until one of these handlebars breaking will be attributed to a much larger issue (personal injury, liability, etc). I would think it would be in Arctic Cat's best interests to be proactive on this issue before any lawsuits are filed.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the idea of the design. It was one of the cool things that drew me to buying a Cat with a body style fairly long in tooth.

If the steering posts need to be made from Chrome Moly and the steering post mounts need to have better support and bearings, then do so through a service bulletin and replace the ones in the field before there are more failures and add the updated bars to the 2010's before the entire design is considered a failure and abandonned.

If they elect to remedy the issue with the bars. I hope they make the replacement bars much stronger, less wiggly (technical term) and a couple inches higher due to the increased strength.

Ok, I'm climbing off my soapbox.

Cat has never had good steering posts, they all seem to be prone to bending and breaking in the mnt sleds.

I built a new post that deletes the heim cat runs on the bottom , been running it all spring. Its straight so you dont have that wiggly post. With the 4 plug head the post has a bend in it, if the top mount was tight it would just bind.

ok ,that was a bit overgeneralized, my experiences this year have been poor, most likely having to do with a change in mgmt at my local dealer. I've had a broken bulkhead (not a single crash at that point) and later a few broken posts, I have not been able to warranty these. The post that broke through being bent I wouldn't bother to do anything about, the one that failed I asked & got a no.

I would not usually ask about "broken" parts, since I tend to crash a lot & give my sled a beating, but I agree if something is blatently weak it should be a mfgr issue.
My statement wasn't a know cat policy, just me spouting off as usual!!

I tried ordering the post for my 07, but they are on back order until the end of August. Since they were originally back ordered until end of February and now August, my guess is that they must be doing some redesign and validating something different.

Adjustable steering post - any updates?

Anybody have an update to this? I just bought a slightly used 09 M8 Sno Pro, and I noticed it has a bent steering post and the bars have far too much play in them. I measured the play - 1/2 inch the bars move side to side before they start to turn the skis. It feels sloppy, I would prefer it to be tight! Maybe the previous owner got it all loose from trying to bend the bars back to be straight? Would buying a new post (AC item # 0705-987) make that connection tighter? Thanks!

You can tighten up the handlebars with the two bolts above and behind the pipe that hold the handlebars and the bolt in front of the track inside the tunnel.

BDX had an improved version of the adjustable bar coming out in the VERY near future. I think I'll wait for their bars and replace mine because from what I have seen, every M8 with the VSB bars I has loose handlebars.

get the wildchild post,i can't tell you how much chit mine has been throw and still is kicking. had it get a little loose but just had to put a washer under it and all good. and it has not been run light with over 2K+ a year for the last two years. I have never heard of a bent one yet?

Great!

I have been toying with ditching the VSB bars and going to a 4" Fastlane chrome moly steering post that's 4" taller than stock.
I am thinking about doing the same thing, either that or bdx's chromoly post when it comes out

My experience:

The standard post (non-adjustable) with any riser over 3 inches on it is good for about one season in the mountains. (Bent)

And... from the people I ride with the adjustable is worth-less than that...(Broke)

I am going to put 2006 SnoPro steering on the next sled I get, be that a Xfire or an M.

the steering plane sucks on the M's and xfires compared to the race sled, and now apparently the post will just snap off anyways so might as well fix it before it does snap.
