Best way to break in a new 800? I know there will be a few different responses but its all helpfull.

An interesting read and method. I think if you read between the lines on polaris' recommended break-in proceedure they are not to far off. Just keep and open mind while reading both one after the other.

I'm going with this route if we ever get some snow. I am also starting from day one with Legends ZX2SR oil

Let it get up to 100 degrees before you touch the throttle. Then go out and vary the throttle. Once it's up to 120 or so, flog it, but don't hold it pinned for any long blasts (longer than 15 seconds or so) until you have a full tank through it.

Also a good idea to leave it configured for ethanol even if you're running good gas (non ethanol) through it as the premix will have it running lean.

Always how I've done it and haven't had a single motor problem yet on either of my 07 Dragons, my old 660, any of my 600s before those... (furiously knocking on wood).

I'm concerned about the break in procedure. I have 80 miles on my 2012 Pro and am through one and a half tanks of non eth fuel. But checking my oil again today; I see it has only used about 1/4 of the oil total. I've heard the Pro's don't use as much oil as older Poo's; but WOW! Can this be right? It seems to run fine.

they mixed the gas from the dealership im assuming cause it smells and smokes rich when i moved it the other night there is no snow here so it looks like im gonna have to break it in out west.

Most dealers will pour a pint of oil in the first tank in addition to what your oiler gives you.

I've always ridden a break in sled at about 95% of normal with WOT of no more than 15 or so seconds until I at least get a full tank run thru it.....then its ON!! :):face-icon-small-coo

I am in the same perdicament, No snow until today we now have a wopping 3/4 of an inch.:face-icon-small-dis

Just remember that however you break it in and ride it that it has a computer that records what you do with it, like how much time idling, how much time at WFO, how hot, how many times hot, ect, ect. FWIW

I feel your pain on the new sled no snow thing, bought mine a month ago and was lucky to get 6" of the white blessing to put on 8 miles out in the bean fields a couple of weeks ago. Good luck, I am going to run mine like the book says for one tank of fuel and then ride it like I ride em!

I've given all my sleds several heat cycles(running them up to operating temp 120 degrees) letting them cool down fully. After this check all fluid levels before first ride, including chaincase(they have been known to be shipped low on oil).

Make sure you have the extra oil in the first tank.Take it easy on for the first 3 hours,no extended full RPM runs.Checking under the hood for oil consumption, coolant level, strange smells(other than exhaust burning clean).
Also re tighten track track when it loosens (15 mm,had to do it twice on mine) and look for loose nuts bolts etc.

Enjoy:face-icon-small-hap

Yup all I did was warm up to at least 100* before I left the lot, took it no more than 3/4 throttle for the first 4 or 5 miles, wanted to make sure no coolant leaks etc, then lots of full throttle, but nothing extended.
Lots of varying rpm but also lots of wot.

Stuck at 57 miles though, weather and riding buddies not co-operating lol.
Once I hit 80 miles I have to think she's broke in as she's going to get.
Swap out the ethanol plug and zoom zoom!!

Yep, that's about how mine is going. 130 miles and it looks like half a tank used. Maybe not even half. At this rate it's going to use 4 tanks for 1000 miles. :face-icon-small-sho
