Blue Mountains 2016-17

Anyone going riding Friday or Saturday (Dec 23-24)?

Fairly new to the area and I'm looking to find more riding buddies. This post is specifically for this coming weekend, but I ride basically every Saturday and sometimes during the week. Areas I typically ride are Elk River, the Blues, and the gospels but I'm up for anywhere there is snow. I ride a 2012 assault with a MTNTEK fix kit and modified suspension. I love riding snowmobiles but prefer technical mountain riding. I have a pickup and two place trailer and I am willing to ride. Also I am self sufficient in that if I do get stuck you don't have to help me get unstuck. I have a beacon, probe, and shovel and I am getting some training from the FS so I can get better at using this equipment. If this sound desperate thats because it is.

PM me.

Ride Report 12/25/16

Rode out of Cloverland today. You can only drive as far as the turn around at Cloverland Estates as the road is blown in.

There looks like there has been some grooming but a lot of snow has blown in. The Potlatch Road is not groomed and there are a couple of trees down but you can drive around them.

At the marker is slightly less that three feet so ride off road at your own peril. :)

Riding out of Rose Springs and the road and the parking lot are plowed.

Rode with a group of talented riders on Rotax power, and then there were two Cat riders. One was talented, looked great, high marked, and she looked great doing it. Then there was CB8....

Stuck

Stuck again

Stuck Number 3 (note the Doo tracks all around)

ATTENTION: ANY alternate versions, whining, excuses, of this story are null and void and probably illegal in California...

Lots of people in the mountains, GREAT DAY!!! just less than 4 feet at the marker, burgers were available at the Mt Misery Cabin (they were awesome!!!!):face-icon-small-ton

^ looks good. We took off from rose springs this Sunday morning. Replace the sleds in your stuck pictures with ours and that's how our day went today. Ended up in a couple of un-tracked places that we used to ride all the time and played (shoveled) there for quite a bit. Gorgeous day for some riding until it got gloomy towards the end of the day. Monday riding was a better day for sure.

Just a couple of photos...the girls didn't manage to get any stuck photos because they couldn't see us.

Rode out of Dayton, snow park is plowed... road coming up is slick!

There is some evidence of grooming but most areas were blown in... WAY COOL!!!

Great powder snow and we found a lot of areas untracked:face-icon-small-coo

Cloverland

Hearing this third person.... Road to Cloverland and the parking lot are not plowed... can anyone confirm?

Also hearing Pomeroy side is plowed and groomed...

As far as I know there hasn't been a contract to plow the road on Cloverland side for two years. The Forest Service has had the loggers in the area plow the road is my understanding.

Do you know anyone that might want to put in a bid to plow the road and parking lot over there?

Last Sunday (1/15) we had to unload two or so miles before cloverland estate. Loggers pulled out a few weeks before and road is blown in.

Thanks for the update....Okay, so Cloverland access is like the old days... so if I ride out of Cloverland do I need to license my snowmobile (sarcasm:face-icon-small-con)

Mt. Misery Snow Drifters bucket run is slated for Saturday, 2/4, if any of you are interested. For those who haven't played/rode before, riding from the rose springs side has multiple stops along the way; the cloverland riders play their entire hand at Misery cabin.

Bucket Run

Just got a telephone call the bucket run is cancelled due to a challenge to get to the Rose Springs parking lot... was told they will reschedule

Ride Report 2/4/17

Rode out of Cloverland. The road is plowed to Cloverland Estates where you have to park. Oh by the way, for you *** HATS that park in the F******G turn around... so how in the H e l l is someone suppose to turn around if they have a trailer?!?!?!?

So it was raining down low and turned to snow at about 5500 feet. The trail was groomed beginning at the snow park and in pretty good shape except it was blown in a couple of places and made it a challenge for the young pilots riding nearly 40 year old Yamaha 340s... man I am whipped from fixing those old sleds and getting them unstuck...:bowl:

Was it two white chevy pickups parked at the end without trailers? If so it's the same ones that's were there last Sunday.

silver new chevy and the guy left his unhooked trailer in the turn around...

I have seen in the past two trucks hooked up to the offending parked vehicle and move it... and not very gently

Plumnuts

It's great that you take the time and get the next generation out on the snow. Just a question though do you have plastic ski skins on those Yamaha's for the wet snow days? I remember the old days when two or three inches of snow and stick to those making it miserable to get the steel skis moving from a stop.

I'm glad I had a change of plans and couldn't make the bucket run. I was on the mountain Friday night beating the freezing rain and also had breakfast ate before the power went out at Tollgate for six hours. Had a great ride other than on the wet side in the morning making heavy wet snow at certain elevations. Amazing how you roll a sled stuck uphill it turns and points downhill ready to go.

Waiting for the next cat boy episode. Last I saw him he was enjoying our club bucket run with his family with nice weather that day.

We were in town at my sisters house when we got the call. We drove down from Spokane so we waited a few hours and hit it anyway. The road melted off around 10am and the snow was great up high. Fought the indy most of the day but it made it back to the parking lot in one piece. We rode again some today and same story, great snow up high. Definitely wet snow, but decent and rideable. Better than not riding at all.

no on the ski skins... always kept the skis painted.... the rattle can hammer paint seems to stick the best... but yeah new riders of today would not understand the pit falls of metal skis...
