Blue Marble--synthetic or mineral base?

After reading all the info from indydan I was just wondering about blue marble? The BM website doesn't say much. Patented(secret). I was allways thinking(scary) that it was a refined mineral oil.
Is mineral the same as petroleum based?

All I know is that my sled runs a hell of a lot better with it, smokes less, doesn't leave a black crap pile when I idle (leaves almost no discoloration in the snow), and cleaned the hell out of my power valves. And it's $12 a gallon cheaper than AC APV oil.

The base stock used for Blue Marble is a hydro-cracked white mineral oil. It is extremely clean and bio-degrabeable.

I used to be a dealer for the product and still use it in all my 2-strokes.
 
Once I get my sled fully broke in, I will be switching over to blue marble.
Ran it for 5000 miles in my last sled with zero problems and I will do it again.
 
It's mineral based, I tried it, lost a lower rod bearing due to a lack of lubrication (running mixed at 40:1 in a ktm 200 exc) won't run it anymore!
 
Its mineral based for the price of synthetic.

I won 4 gallons of it at a show and choose to dump it in the tank of my diesel to keep the IP lubed. It won't go in my sleds.
 
I like the stuff also used it for 4 years now and no problems. A friend of mine
though bought a new 05 king kat and right out of the box moded the hell out of it, and instead of using the cat oil for the break in used BM. Last year he notioced the sled was using compression. And come tho find out the oil lubed so well that his rings never seated, and you could still see the factory cross hatch in the cylinders. This was after alomost 800mi. and 3 years of riding.

I've used it almost exclusively in my 05 M7.....the sled runs better with this oil and uses a little less gas......6553 miles on the sled...it also doesn't smell much at all compared to other oils......I have no commercial interest in the oil and originally tried it just to check it out...also there is no significant wash on the pistons when you look in the exhaust port...kinda scary but the miles speak volumns....it's some really slippery, clean burning stuff, my last ride I tried klotz and the motor ran nowhere near as crisp as with the BM....I have a loop I frequently ride, about 60 miles, and I use about a gallon less gas with BM compared to the others I've tried, AC, Klotz, Yamalube, Amsoil. Works for me, it's a great product.

I tore down an AC 440 with over 6000miles. It ran every cocktail blend of oil there was. Whatever was around. Those cylinders still had cross hatch marks too. I have used BM for 3 years not, just because it was & still is cheaper than Polaris or the other syn's around here. I have had no complaints on the smell, and have had no oil related problems. Use what works.
 
Blue Marble reeks!!! I know I follow a decrepted old man around all day long, smells almost as bad as Yamalube :eek: :eek:

The mineral oil they sell at the Skidoo shop is what reeks..... that stuff leaves black crap all over the snow and smells like you just stuck your face in the bottle. Icky!
 
I don't think the price is horrible- I paid $38 a gallon for Blue Marble this year, $35 a gallon for Polaris "Blue" (or whatever they are calling it these days). Polaris VES is more like $45 a gallon, and Ski-Doo oil is up there too.
