Clarke673

Somewhere between too dumb to quit and flat earth
Thinking about building a mountain sled and this is what i am looking at doing...

$2000 for a 2007 roller
$1600 for a 2004 800 polaris engine from bad oscar customs with pipe and mounting brackets
$300 ICE age 151" rails
$500 151x15x2.5" challenger extreme
$200 tunnel extension???? Not sure what to get
$150 U coolers from CMX
$500 Boss Seat with nitrous pouch
$500 used boondocker nitrous kit
$200 in other parts
$200 SCS vinyl rap

So i am looking at about $6500 into the sled. I am wondering what you guys think. I already have Shorter IQ spindles and gripper skis along with Pro taper handle bars. I also have a 2005 900 engine that i could use to save some money as i am short on coin.

I think this will be a VERY well rounded mountain sled that will go most any ware, keep up with the best of sleds, jump better than almost any mountain sled and also be indestructible.

What would you guys do? Can i just run stock 2006 polaris spindals on the IQR? I am biulding this sled for early year riding. I already have an 05 600 IQR for my jumper.

The blue and white one is SEXY! What are my options wiht the tunnle? What track would be best? I am not sure on the tracklength or the tunnle options.

Brad W (1200psi) builds a killer tunnel and priced right. The fifth pic up with the billet arms is one of his old sleds. VE and Terra Alps also build a nice tunnel for mountain conversions.

Is $2000 the going rate for an '07 roller?

Just wondering as I am thinking about doing the same kind of build. Except I want an 800 CFI or a triple. :D

Round about yes, I know of a few 07 and 06 rollers all around $2000. I can get a 05 roller for $1600 but i don't want the blue plastics on my mountain sled because i am going to have my hood custom painted orange....

This sled will be orange Poo II! In memory of Orange Poo I… :( BTW, tanks to who ever striped it! I would love to invite who eve did that out to my ranch for some dinner. It’s a real cool place, I got about 100 Square miles of forest behind it….. Ever try finding a body on that much land?

anyways, What is the best seat and tank to use on thease sleds? I have never seen or rode one in person with a boss seat, how do they fit?

I am not all to concerned about bling. I am more of a performance over looks kinda guy. So let me rephrase this..... Who makes the cheapest conversion that is worth owning? Do I have to buy a new tunnel?

Also, has anyone ever put a 2005 900 in an IQR? Im not sure if i would want it or not but i have one already with all the electronics so it would save me allot of money.

I believe holz makes a tunnel extension for them. The 900 IMO would be a waste of time, you would be better off with a fixed 800 twin or a 1200 triple or a turbo small block twin.

There was one with a 900 at TRI-City cycles. I rode it and didnt like it. Seemed heavy and slow.JMO

I saw someone had one for sale, that wasnt too far off from what you want. Would just need to put black plastic on it and the ice age rails and a track and your done.
I cant remember who i saw that had one for sale though.

I know! I could have swore i seen one around.... And you would think some one who was selling such an item would post something... People thease days! You know i have looked all over adn can't find one. You would think if osme one kne of a sled like that they would post it on hear or put it in they'r sig or somethin

If you are going to do this take the time and $$ and do it right. The third one down was built by Winter @CMS. He is building four of these now. All four have VE tunnels, two of the tunnels have custom tapers on them. They are so much better than an extension. With a new tunnel you have more options on the suspension used and the location to fit your needs. Plus you will have a better sled for the powder because of the taper. You can't get that with an extension.

of course you can, I've made several, just go to a local fabshop in your area that has a pressbrake, any reasonably knowledgeable brakeman can form up a kicked up extension. Just look at a stock gen 2 rmk, their tapered tunnel isn't tapered at all, it's just a kicked up tunnel extension riveted onto the tunnel. I've seen many custom tunnel designs and i know quite a few guys who've built their own, and other than where the taper begins and the running board design, it's pretty hard to improve on an original design without adding weight. Just my somewhat controversial opinion

If you are so sure about that, why don't you trade your '08 D8 for a stock gen 2 RMK? A VE tunnel without the gas rack is as light or lighter than the stock tunnel on an IQR.
By the way the one,the one that Winter built for me is 418 lbs.
Do it right or don't do it at all!!!!
