Big trouble today - help needed!!!!

I remember reading that you guys were prepared.
I also beleive that at one time or another you guys thought you were spending the night.
With that being said, what did you guys have that you were glad you had?
And after being in that type of situation, what will you carry with you now that you wish you would have had then?
Serious ? here... I have had close calls but never had to spend the night on the mountain.
I carry more than I used too, but I'm sure that once in the situation I would think of other things that I wish I would have packed.
Thanks!
Mike

Killerk: great question

I don't think anybody has talked about their fire starter skills. Call the EPA:confused: LMAO

7 hours of three guys with tow straps hanging off the back of a sled pulling with everything we had to keep the sled from sliding out of control while one guy steered and pumped the breaks 200 ft at a time. Then everyone hike back up to the next sled. 5 sleds total. We had to of done close to 5,000ft of vertical climbing to get all of sleds to the bottom Saturday.

reading through all the details of this account, it had a familiar ring to a similar story I remembered seeing here on SW last season. This same thing happened to another group in the exact same spot - the only difference was that they didn't get a chopper ride out...

After digging around, I found that other story here: http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54529

Yep, same canyon. S&R said someone goes in there every year.
Going in next summer to find a better route out. I hope.

correct. they didn't get a ride out. But I think they were located at 5 am and lots of men worked through the night on that rescue. We chose to have them call off the rescuers and not to put any one in harms way in the dark in that drainage. They would have done it and we didn't want them at risk. Chopper was there, so leave the gear and get out! they let it be our call. great guys. We wanted them home in their beds too.

so now I wonder how many will follow your tracks down in there to see where that "trail" goes. Being the explorer type, I know I would be tempted to...

continued...

ok, a month later this story comes back. Remember that the day we were lost someone also drove a sled into a mine shaft very close to where we were? the sled got wedged and they had a hard job getting it out but it never took the ful plunge. Well I hear at breakfast that another sled went in that shaft, when they pulled the sled out the 71 year old man on it went 40 feet down the shaft!!!! he was rescued by S&R and is ok. While being told this story at the local cafe by my neighbor, while standing there with my nephew, the neighbor then says... "and some group of 'idoits' drove off of lightning ridge too and had to be rescued" wow, are they ok and how many? seems there were five of them and they came out by chopper and left the sleds. LMAO. That wasn't lightning ridge I said.. "and we got the sleds out the next day." "it was US! remember all the trucks at my house one late with trailers?" YUP! that was us. :) nephew and I had a laugh and left. we're famous, guys. :) haha. and I AM NEVER going back there.

Doug, what's this WE talk.

Don't drag the rest of us in on your fame.LOL:p

hahahaha. NO NO.. I mentioned YOU and Hector!!!!! as part of the Super - Superbowl Sunday rescue crew.

and the dude who fell 40 feet and had to be roped up by S&R who climbed down... he's reported to be totally unhurt. awesome. what a ride down a shaft THAT had to be.

we're famous, guys

Really? I think that should be INfamous!! ;)

Pete and I went up to help get the guy out of the mine shaft....but S&R left us in the parking lot!!! :D LOL! (j/k...) But, I guess if we can't keep up....we shouldn't have been there anyway! ha!

One for the record books!!!

Got Copter???

I've fallen in a hole, or down a mountain, and can't get up! :)
