BEWARE!!!!!! in Cooke City

$32 to get someone to drive down and take care of you and put the part in. The expertise was where the cost is. It may have taken someone else ywo hours to fix your sled. At least you were able to ride. My belief is when you are on a trip you pay what it costs to get back on the trail. I to believe I have been overcharged for parts and service many times while riding, but it is a fix thta I do not have the knowhow to accomplish. It takes a tax preparer less than an hour to complete a standard 1040 yet you get charged $150 do you complain, no that is his skill.

Rick deserves better he helped get you going AMEN

Dude cut the guy a little slack.. I would have at least walked across the street to see how long it would take from bob ect... Fuc paying top dollar if I don't have to. However i don't see how there is any way you could have got it the next morning if bob didn't have it in stock. Which means I would have probably been back in ricks shop with my tail between my legs asking for the part with a smile on my face.. . As a visitor to cooke we are there pray and livelihood. Very few people just live there and those that work make there money off visitors gauranteed. It sounds like ricks shop is getting a little out of hand with the gouging and somebody should step in and take his business over... Any takers? Probably not and that's because its ****ing hard to have a profitable business there bottom line... So to whoever is giving him **** for checking prices a bit come on now. really? I am sure you all expect hook ups from certain people and probably go out of your way to take advantage of that. However coming on the forum as a noob was a bold move as its everyone opinion on the forum that your gonna get taxed in cooke. We already know that and except it for what it is and I don't think anyone on here really considers it out of line.. Now the other post about the belt issue on the rmk rental had a little more to it... This is one is cut and dry

Rick deserves better he helped get you going AMEN Rick did not come from anywhere, he was already there, and he did not fix my sled, I did, all he did was fetch the part.

did he install the clip for 32 bucks or charge 32 dollars for the part.installed it a great deal, but if it was just for the part not so much:face-icon-small-ton

Sounds like the two redneck mechanics in the movie "Vacation" after they replaced the wheels and tires on Chevy Chases station wagon he said "how much do I owe you"? They said "how much do you have"?

ok Zeeman...i am sorry for making hay with your post..its just i can never pass the chances up...

its just that i come from an area that if im travelling a remote section and she is 40 below out and the winter dang long i do pay extra at the places that are open..because i know their costs to stay open are high..the heating is costly...the customers far and few inbetween...

but sure you explain yourself abit more and i see your side as well in your experience.

.but usually when a first post from someone is of the nature yours was it is generally a hidden agenda and its fun to nip it in the butt..

but your concerns may be totally genuine.....so anyway no hard feelings...

Out of curiosity how much was the part through your local dealer or online?

A normal "c clip" for a carb runs about 8-9 bucks....is it fair for a dealer to charge someone in a bind 3x as much for a part?

Just playing devils advocate :face-icon-small-ton

None taken, everyone has there opinion. It's just the 1st time I've been taken advantage of like that in all the years that I've been going out West. I don't normally complain that much, I just didn't think it was right, that's all. Like I said earlier, I'm sure Rick has done a lot good for a lot people in the past, just not for me on my 1st trip to Cooke City, so I'm sorry.

I can understand Zeeman's frustration.
But I wish it were more our nature to praise all of the places that we feel have given us great service, rather than pointing out the ones who let us down.
Hey we are human & this thread wouldn't have 10% of the views it's had if it were positive feedback.

Did you really get him to come back to town after the place had closed for the day?

Supply and demand applies.

Back in the day when I was tuning carbs and messing around I ALWAYS kept a spare needle c clip in my wallet. They are notorious for flying into the abyss.

One day out on a ride a buddy was dropping his needles and I hear him say .........."faw.......dge. I whipped out my wallet and said. "whats this worth to yah:face-icon-small-ton I didnt charge him 32 bux but it might of been cheaper since he bought my beer all night!!!!!

Point of story zeeman is I bet you wont make this mistake again. Come better prepared and take your lumps. Its just like paying 8.00 bucks for a pop at Disney you can gripe all you want but you know its going to be 8 bux before you even went. Dont expect a deal on sled parts on the road.

After reading this post I realize I better guard my little bag of tools/parts I carry like it was a bag of gold!! After all, I have $320 worth of C-Clips in there. (bag of 10).:face-icon-small-sho

There isn't much i don't have with me when I travel and every trip it seems like we find another part we need to add to the list of things to have, most places keep very little on hand for parts unless they are rental shops and then they seem to stock just what they have for rentals. The overhead it would take to keep every machine out there covered would be more of an undertaking than I could see anyone being able to handle. But, I think I would find an alternative to that C-Clip if someone said it was $32 and they didn't have to open the shop up special just for me or install it, but that's just me and I'm not the one on the other side of the counter paying the bills to keep the place open so you can have a place to buy that C-Clip, spark plug, tie rod end, belt, throttle cable, or whatever else it might be.
