best XP intake fix?

I have read everything posted here on Snowest about this and there are so many different opinions that I can't decide which way to go.
I was thinking about going the Timbersled way just to get rid of all the junk but it gets pretty mixed reviews. what works?
How is the stock 09 filter working? Have not heard much about it yet.

I put 2-- 2 1/2" SLP flow rites w/ rubber gromet on top of airbox and one on top of the hood just ahead and to the left of the handlebars. I did this last year and it worked good. Instead of puting the one on the hood you could go with 1 or 2 on top above the insturment cluster. I have seen kits that do this but I don't remember where. Not a bad price for the kit as the flow rites are $20 a pop.

I did that and mine were cracked when I removed my airbox to install my timbersled intake kit... I think If I would have ridden another season they would have fell into my airbox and in my carbs....

we have had the flowrites and they helped and a friend had a timbersled and didnt like it all--we have the SLP cold air intake for our 09's and they are real nice:D
PS: the timbersled also eliminates the dmp hose and the air temp sensor which they NEEEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Don't cut holes in your airbox. It will screw up your air sensor. Besides,, why would you want hot ait from under your hood entering your airbox. Cold air is good... warm air is bad.

How will it screw up you intake air temp sensor if the holes are infront if the sensor:confused:

I would take the alleged warm air over no air at all.

i rode my 08 all last year,,, deep,, never an air intake problem. i will try to send u a pic... velcro a screen mesh over the intake. no resriction, no foam to plug,, the snow just blows off... sweet. not a big deal.

Two 2 in flowrites installed in the back of the airbox opposite of the carbs. Works great. pics from Tuesday.

Mixed Reviews & Results.

I installed flowrites in the back of my 08 last year, not much change, and I know why. Try this: take a flowrite, and put a hair dryer on one side and turn it on, feel any airflow, yep your right NOTHING, OK take the it to the other side, yep! Still nothing!!!! If a hair dryer cant push air thru the flowrite material, what makes you think your motor will pull enuf air thru???

I did find a good fix, and we ran in over the handle bars deep fluffy powder all year last year, the Snorkle. See pic. Well crap, I seem to have lost the pic, I will get another and attach.

Its a 1.5 inch diameter tube that you inset intot he front of your airbox and route it above the brake caliber and it draws cold air from holes you drill in your cowling by your choke lever. I posted in a thread about it last year, will search for it...........

Found it, but pics are gone, will geet some nedw ones today.

slp has these for the pol. wonder if they would fit the xp.

Would it be a problem if these are located right behind the carbs... would it cause a prob with the air temp sensor , where is that sucker located?

ps.edit.. I think these would be great...just talked to slp they are goin to test the xp and see what kind of vaccum the xp airbox has when plugged and unplugged and will change spring rates on the flaps to suit. sj

We have tried the flowrites and now are using the SLP kits. The SLP kit fits nicely, draws cold air and it works very well in the deep. Just tested for 3 days and no bogging or hesitation at all in 2-3 feet of fresh.

Quick Fix

Tree popped a hole in the 08 prefilter

Took an extra piece of SLP filter and loosely glued it over the factory filter at the edges, also took 3/4 x 1/4 weather stripping and taped to top of filter along ribbed edge to seal to the hood. ( double layered )
As the loose filter flexes due to throttle and air flow, it keeps the snow off, the weatherstripping is to eliminate hot air from coming under the hood across the filter and melting the snow onto the filter and freezing it up.

No problems, no plugging, $20, bottle of ale and half hour to do!!!

Sorry no pics

Ya?? It is a intake air sensor. It tells the computer what temp the air is entering the engine... if you have filter pods, with outerwears and mount the sensor next to them, it wouldnt be any different than if the airbox was still installed... Same sensing perameters. Plus no belt dust will enter the engine because of the filter pod outerwears.
Now the DPM sensor senses altitude (atmospheric pressure), so no matter where you place it, it will still work like it is supposed too.

I hope this helps... :)

I have put the race sled intake on my 09 summitx but the verdict is still out. Lots of work to make it look good.

Slim, i just took a 4 inch flowrite and air flowed right thru just by blowing on it. Time to get your wife a new blow dryer.
