Best Mountain Sled for a 13 year old?

instead of trying to get yourself introuble with power, why don't you aim for improving your skills. I have seen guys on 440's bmbarass high hp mod sleds at more than one climb. sure on a big pow day you are never gonna be the fastest or highest, but if you can carve and side hill like a machine you will be an animal when you develop your full size body.......I would go with a lighter sled and gear it down. no offense, but at 13 you can't have enough expierience to get yourself out of trouble in the mountains, and at your weight you can get into some tough places on a big gun sled.......this coming from a guy that started on a sno-tamer, before I see over the counter at the coffee shop.......more than 20 years ago.

xp 800 you may as well put him on something light and fast right away. He will kill it on the xp. My wife (5'3" 110lbs.) has a 144" 600 rev that I have done a lot of work on. She got on my xp and she will not ride anything else again. I was laughing and she said "I'm serious I don't want to ride the rev after riding the xp, the way the xp handles compared to the rev is night and day".
I guess I have an 05 600 rev for sale. Haha

There ya go man, buy this guy's Rev, was rode by a woman. Seems pretty simple to me, 600's are great machines

I do agree with you about not having enough experience to tread the mountains by yourself, if thats what your proposing.

For example: my dad bought a bone stock 600lb apex in 06, when I want more power to finish off a climb I ride that. (NOT BRAGGING!) i can whip that thing around easy as my 144 viper. Also I can sidehill the same with ease.
Thats because I've ridden alot! I'd ride everyday after school in Alpine WY when I was 7-10. On my ovation! ahaha fun sled.

What im getting at is, I just need a step up in power and handling, and a step down in weight. Watcha got for me? :face-icon-small-coo

Build up that viper...........835 bender triple pipes lightweight tunnel polaris or after market skid the good stuff. You wont need another sled that one will flat out rip.

My 10y old son is learning to handle a 600 properly, but he wants to have my X2 700.

My 9 year old son has been riding a 92 Phazer II (aaen single pipe)for 3 years, I thought I would put a 136 x 1-1/2 track on and let him pound that for a few more years. How old do you have to be to ride in Wyoming if I would decide to take him West some year?

pick up a good used 2005 m7. That was the lightest m sled made at 465 lbs and it will take you anywhere you want to go. Look around and you can get one for 4/4500.00 bucks.

I totally agree! My boy weighs 120 lbs at 17 and his 05 m7 141 has really worked out well and I just put on a 2 inch riser block for him as he is getting pretty tall. Should be a surprise if he does not read this thread!;) He has been riding the m's since they came out and I find them to be easy to work on------

Right with ya Delo!!!!!

Im 38 and didnt get on a sled till 2001. My first sled at 31 was 583 ski doo summit 136. Talk about a stuck &^%*&#%#$@. Hell my first ride on it was in the snowies above Laramie so my learning curve was really short. By the end of the season I was on 01 800 RMK and loving life. As far as a good sled for my kid I would probably put him on a 600 Rev. Light, easy to handle wider track for better flotation and yes it would be used due to the "WRECK FACTOR".....lol
