I know there is going to be different opinions but I am looking for a mountain sled for my older son. We just got into the sport last year I found a 01 summit 151 and this summer I bought a 03 summit 144 he is 20 and we found a really nice 03 F5 sno pro 1400 miles $1700 so he bought that but just don't do well in powder so I'm thinking of getting him a mountain sled for Christmas. I can get a new 08 M8 162 for $6700 or is there just as good a sled from 04,05,06 whatever that's just as good but cheaper if I can find a good deal? thanks for any help like I said we are real new to the sport

Find a clean M-series. Yes M-8's are fantastic sleds and there are deals to be found......just need to find 'em.

I would suggest sending a PM to "Ski-Laxn" here on here. He sometimes has some great sleds available.

the older m series sleds are great and perform very well. you also could look into something like a king cat but make sure you get the efi unless you are into the wrenching and tweaking it side of the sport. good luck hope you find something good.

I am going to be looking for a similar sled next summer and am 18. My family rides polaris and I have really come to like them. I have a 97 RMK right now but i am going to look for a 07-09 RMK. The 600 and 700 are good engines. Stay away from the 800's as there has been some problems with them. I am going to look for a 155 and wouldnt go much longer than that. If you cant find one of them i would go with an m-series artic cat which are good sleds. That m-8 that you are going to buy sounds a little high, but thats just me. Good luck!

Arctic Cat: M-series M7 or M8 153
Polaris: Edge RMK 700 151
Ski-Doo: REV 600 or 800 Summit 151

Lots of good used sleds in this year range. Shop around.

well to put it this way my buddy just grenaded the motor in his 09 dragon and my other buddy has to pull the motor in his sled to change the crank seals, and I just ride my M8. I'd look for a M7 or M8

You could not go wrong with an 06 Rev 800. Great sled....very few problems and they rip right out of the box.

06 summit 800? Someone chime in if i'm wrong, but wasn't 06 the worst year for the 800r? I thought they had quite a few problems with them. Personally I would look for an m7 or m8. If you can live without reverse get an m7 and do a little work on it. A good running m7 will run with 07-08 m8s for sure. IMO

06 is not an 800R, its a power TEC 800HO, and this is widely considered the best of the REV chassis DOOs. You cant go wrong with the M series either 7 or 8:face-icon-small-win

06 was the best year for the summit. The 800R motor did not come out until 07 and that was a terrible year.

Had an 06 summit and great sled. leave it stock or a clutch kit. Had 4000 miles when I sold it.

If I was buying for my son, I would consider an m7 or an RMK IQ 600 or 700. Personally I think they handle a little easier, but won't go as far up a steep hill.

for the money 04 05 mountain or king kat hands down will run with the new sleds on the mountain

Those things are an Impala low-rider compared to newer chassis tho. If he wants something more user-friendly, he'd be better off on a Rev, Edge, earlier Dragon or M-sled. Power-wise a King-Kat will run with a newer sled.....comfort and manuevability, no way.

with a forward post they handle much better. i ride with m8s and xps and i can go where they can go and out climb most of them or it must be the rider lol

You wont find anything used thats any better than that new m8. Any used sled will be less reliable and the m8 is a good mountain sled. The m8 is better than the 06 summit.

I am 20 also and my dad bought me a hold over 08 m8 with the powerclaw on it and the 2010 seat get him the m8 he will have a warranty and he will love it. By far my favorite sled besides my dads 2010 m8.
