Best carb option for CR500

M5 suggested the 38mm Airstryker because thays what Ron uses for the Pulsed 500. Has to be the Airstryker. If you go pulse another thing to think of is frame. With the steel frame 500 the 38mm from a YZ250 (some KX and Suz use the same carb) can be used. You just have to block the TPS hole. This carb is 1/2" shorter than a regular PWK 38mm. This works good if you have a heat flange. I use the YZ carb in the winter and a sep PWK in the summer.

I suggest u call Ron and talk with him. He is quite the character and loves 2 strokes ! He will inform u on the
pulse.

Is your summer pwk pulsed?

Yes it is. I use the same intake for summer and winter but change out the carb. The YZ, RM,KX carb works excellent for fit with my flange in the winter. Its neat and clean !

The summer carb is a regular PWK 38 Airstryker (non chinese eBay LOL). On my winter carb i jetted once up the trail for the baseline and have never touched since. The baseline is what Ron calls the 270 setting. 2 turns out on the airscrew at 70F. Obviously in the winter that will work out to something different. Ron uses a Honda needle in the 4th position in the winter. Its a little richer than his summer setup.

I have mine setup so i run full aircrew in up the trail and then work my way out to 2 turns at alt. Runs the same at 2000 as it does at 6000. The airscrew adds/subtract fuel to the entire circuit. There is a good thread at CRRiders on the Pulse. Talk to Ron and he will explain much better than myself. I know some guys who lost a crank seal on this setup and the bike ran fine. Just blew a lot of smoke and no burn down. Ron claims he has never had a burndown with the Pulse.

i put a 38mm lectron on my ktm 300 this year. Really like the carb so far. Spent about 5 min on the first two rides getting it tuned where i wanted it and have not touched it since. ridden it in revelstoke and montana and egts were the same. Like the external power jet for the snow bike application

Thanks for all the feedback. Sounds like most of the options are running pretty darn well. Wish there was a clear winner right now theres just a bunch of options! I would have liked someone with the updated Smartcarb to chime in as well as it sounds like they have figured some things out.

Well just ordered a lectron 40. I'm excited to try it out. Now just need to finish the build and get it on the snow. Hopefully running around the new year.

you wont be disappointed. he was real close on mine. i'm going to end up with a 6-3 needle i think. got alot of timing in the mid range, otherwise the 5-2 would have been bang on.

He recommended a 6-3 for me on snow as well. Great folks to deal with. Should see it next week.

Hey guys. We just installed the newest gen Billet 40MM Smart Carb on a new Service Honda CR500 for a snow show last weekend. I will be helping the owner tune and dial it in possibly this weekend along with the 300 I am testing the Lectron . I will try to get some vid of it. I understand the new gen Billets are working excellent.
