Best Backpack?

This has probably been covered, but, I was wondering what are some of the better backpacks for mountain riding. I currently have a BCA? Hydration Pack and it is no longer big enough for all the stuff I need to carry. One of the most important criteriea is it needs to be water proof. Then carry a shovel/ probe, and have plenty of room left over for the rest of my junk large camera, helmet camera.

no question, the ABS packs. If you're gonna wear a pack, they make the most sense. And if you're lucky, you'll never need it.

Are there any affordable ABS packs? I've seen them for like 800-900? I think they are a great thing and should be more affordable.

I agree they are pricey, but supply and demand sets that. On the other hand your probably riding a $10k+ machine and you most likely spend another grand or more yearly getting to the hills and riding. Maybe just budget a little bit, dont buy a couple of mods, or whatever works for you to make yourself able to afford the ABS pack. It is your life we are talking about. Nothing else you buy can help save your life besides avy gear.

I agree, if you can swing it, an ABS. That being said, I bought a True North Adventure lightning pack this season and really like it. Its the perfect size for me and it is well built, TNA has great customer service.

heli pro here had one of the older ones that got stolen so i spend days trying to find another one of the older style liked it that much.. not a fan of the new desigin older one was bigger to

I am using a tna lightning pack this year. Don't like it too much. It fits my survival gear and thats about it. Theres a little room left but not very much. I don't like that it doesn't really have much for pouches or compartments, no organization.
It is comfortable and seems to be high quality.

I ran a Dakine last year, can't say a bad word about that one. Still love that pack but I got the TNA free so I figured I would give it a shot.

Lots of guys love the Dakine Helipro.

Which ever you choose, make sure it fits you how you want. I also really like my pack to have the shovel/handle/probe accessible from the outside...I dont like to put them inside where the snow gets everything wet (sounds like you are looking for this also). Also nice to be able to get at the shovel easy.

I got the Dakine Pro 2, and so far im really happy with it, its stayed dry (and I had to dig it out of about 4-5" of snow it was snowing so hard when we took a break) has a waterproof camera pouch, front pouch for shovel, proble, and shovel handle (or you can also put it on the outside), as well as some emergency supplies etc., then another pouch behind it that holds a hydration pack, extra gloves, extra sweathshirt, lunch easily, and in case your pack is not full, it has a nice thick ergonomic foam backing that feels nice against your back so the shovel blade dosnt dig in. Straps for holding skis/snowboard upside down, rightside up, accross, and in 69 position, its crazy really, but all fold up nice and neat when not in use.

Straps around your waist, nice and light, comfortable, don't even feel it, and best of all I got it for $34.99 on black friday, I think now you can pick em up for $50-$75 now, you ca check em out on there website, they have all the packs there, and they make some pretty decent gloves too.

Ogio three 6, its a great bag, enough room for some survival gear and other stuff, i got mine for $50 so its affordable to, and really dang comfortable.
