Best AR-15?

Looking for opinions on the best Value for an AR. Don't know alot about them. I have fired a Rock River Arms with a decent scope, and a Bushmaster with iron sights. Other than the scope i don't have enough experience to tell much between the two. Locally, i can get a stripped down Bushmaster for around $800 and build it up from there. Anybody like or dislike the DPMS Sportacle? They go for $720 and come with a few more exras. Whatever I get will probably have a E O Tech on it. They are way cool IMO. My budget is about $1300 and I'd like to get as much as i can for that without getting a pos because it's cheap. Thanks for any input.

whatever you decide, buy it quick, prices will be going up and availability going down. I have an Olympic Arms, it's treated me well for about 8 years and 5k rounds. did get a new barrel last year

If you want to just plink, then get a kit. Easy to put together and ar15.com has a step-by-step procedure to put it together. Model 1 sales has good prices as do others. You can get a lower receiver from many different sources and you just go through your local FFL for a small price, if not local. I have a AR-15 for about $525 into it total. Also, stock up on mags since this will also have a chance of being banned.

If you are short on money, get the lower receiver and mags since you can hopefully add a kit after the ban comes in and still build your ar at a later date.

I have spent time with the DPMS. It is a nice rifle. The handuards have a thicker diameter then the colt and Bushmaster. I had an Armalite A2. For general use they are all ok. I am Colt armour, but they all work the same. The main thing is making sure you get what you want. I would recommend getting something with a detachable carrying handle. This gives you a lot better options when it comes to optics and the accuracy of your optics. Scopes on the top of the carrying handle do weird things at different distances. The EOTEC is a good optic, but it seems to be a bit sensitive to abuse. IE bouncing around in the truck or on the ATV. I use the EOTEC on mine; it gets a lot of use and every now and then needs to be re-zeroed. If you keep the contacts clean, they seem to last a long time.

Ive got the colt model. I have alot of fun with this gun. I put on a Bushnell 3200 Elite scope and have ordered a few more goodies for her. bi pod, new grip and a different stock.

heres some pic's..

Is it still advisable to buy pre-ban rifles?
Are there advantages to newer models?

I'm looking at a COLT H-Bar.
Any advice appreciated!

MD.

Does anyone have any experience with the Remington R-15's yet? All the articles I have read look very promising, but with word of a .243/.308 R-25 version coming out, I might have to spoil myself!

LMT or Sabre.

Go with the Burris Version of the EOtech. It's about $100 cheaper just doesn't go to the water depth the EO tech does.

Then toss you USGI Mags and Buy some Magpull PMAG mags. you won't regret it! And they run about $15 a piece.

My AR is a Mark 12, since removed the riserl. Leopold 4.5x14, and PMAG

Off the shelf Rock River is the best I've seen. They have the best trigger of any off the shelf AR I have ever been around. I've also seen some Olympic Arms stuff that was very nice too.

If you're going to put a scope on it make sure you get a flat top model.

Olympic arms does some WSSM stuff in 223 and 243. I've never been around one but I would like to know how well they feed.

I have a friend with a bolt gun that has feeding issues, so bad it's pretty much a single shot now, but he is also seating the bullet wayyy out there around 3 thou off the lands.

I was thinking the same thing, only I don't think you could get a bigger magazine for them..would be nice to have a .308 in an AR-15 platform.

Another gun that I've shot and really liked is this:

This would be a b!tchin gun

^^My local shop has a Springfield SOCOM 16 I was drooling over last night, something about the old M action.^^

They also have a Armalite AR-10T that is a very nice looking AR, and it was on sale!

DPMS is meh. Their QC is shotty and they don't have as tight a fit as LMT or Sabre.

Master irons before you get optics. Then get an optic you can co-witness with.

some lowers won't accept PMAGs and some lowers won't let PMAGs drop free, never toss a USGI mag since you can't ever have too many mags.

STAG

keep in mind  only 2 companies in the world make lower recievers for AR's, and thats Armalite and DPMS. Everyone else just stamps their name on it.

an AR is an AR is an AR, up to you to make it worth a damn. Ill stick with the Springfield Armory M1A's and chamber them in .22-243's :)
