Wow, the comments are insane. I can't believe there are peopley who can actually say,
"Clearly, the rights of the bear have been violated. The attackers assumed that the bear had criminal intentions simply because he was a bear. This "profiling" is the worst kind of discrimination. The proper approach is to have a conservation officer attend the scene, evalute the circumstances and, if appropriate, take the bear into custody. The bear would then be taken before a tribunal where the evidence could be presented and a determination of guilt or innocence could be made. In this instance, there was a real possibility that the bear could have been put in some kind of program and been rehabilitated. Unfortunately, the bear became a victim of vigilante justice. Now is the time for our government to make a public appology to all bears for this senseless killing and assure them that this kind of conduct will not be tolerated in a free and just society."
I went bear hunting on the Island last year, there are alot of bears up there. Probably a higher concentration then anywhere else in the world.
