BBQ Smokers???

I asked the same question a couple of years ago on here when I was looking for a grill. Everyone told me to get a Traeger, so I did, and I LOVE it! My parents bought one this year also and love theirs too. I am traditional and would love to bbq traditionally, but I just dont have the time. Last weekend I put ribs on at 1 pm, filled the hopper with pellets, set the temp to 225 and walked away from it for four hours. The other big plus is it gets just as hot just as fast as a propane grill for burgers and steak so it makes a great all around grill. There are plenty of others out there that may be good also, but for me I love the Traegers.

I would not hesitate on a traeger, but I have a friend that has more money than sense and I was talking to him about getting a smoker so he went crazy and bought an Ole Hickory Convecture smoker/oven
Here is the cooking capacities:
Ribs (3 & Down) - 12
Baby Back Ribs - 16
Boston Butt (5-7 lbs.)- 32
Turkey (8 lb.) - 16
Chicken (Whole) - 36; (Half)- 72
Brisket (12 lb.)- 12

However like I said the guy is crazy and will drop a ton of money just because, I think he paid around $5K for it.

This is the one I picked up last year. The smoker works great. It's completly dummy proof. I have the Green Egg and also the Bradley and the Convecture Tri-oven is by far the best. Like you said its alittle spendy but it will be the last one you buy. Let me know if you want to to throw a party for you snowesters

Thanks for all the good advice... I ended up with a brinkman charcoal/wood grill with the side charcoal box for smoking.

It was between that and the Brinkman gas/wood smoker witch I still may buy..

I already have a great Brinkman gas BBQ so it seemd only logical to go charcoal/wood. Will be trying it out this weekend..

Wish me luck boy's!!!:D

Thats the one!!:D

It's my first smoker so Im gonna stay natural for a bit... As stated, I may end up with the gas smoker as well. I can buy both of these and still be in them less than the treager or the egg style's..

Gonna give her hell this weekend!:D:eek:

Well smoked my weekend away!! Sunday mornin started the BBQ at about 9 AM and got it good and hot to cure it. Let it burn at about 300 for a few hrs.. At noon I threw on a 2.5lb tri tip and some wood and let er smoke til about 4pm. Opened the lid and thought for sure it would be charcoal!:D I stuck the fork in it to pull it off the grill and the juices just started flowing! OMG it was perfect. Had a nic 1/8 inch smoke ring. Perfect flavor (a little salt, pepper, garlic rub before cooking) and perfect tenderness! It was so good I decided to do a couple racks of baby backs Monday!:D

Monday around noon started the grill and prepped the ribs. I left one set completely stock. (nothing added) and the other I added a mesquite rub to. At 1 I put the wood to the firebox and started smoking the ribs pretty heavy. After two hrs, i wrapped them in foil and sweated them on the grill for about an hour, then added some BBQ sauce to the rack with the rub and Qued them for about another hour.

These were the most succulent ribs I have EVER had!! To die for. Even the plain ones were so tender and full of flavor!! Im extremely happy with my smiker!! Will be getting rid of the gas grill altogether!

Also tried the corn boiled and then grilled!!!:eek: I actually grilled them over the coals/wood in the firebox so they got some extra flavor!! Oh yea!!!

Thanks for all the tips guy's!!

Now that B T has throughly blown his wad, can we get back to the subject at hand.

Has anyone used a Camp Chef Browning Smoke Vault. I think I have my choices down to 2. That one and the Perfect Flame, which is about half the price.

Can't see getting a Bradley, because you have to buy there fuel. Can't use wood, plus a review I read they take twice as many pellets as they advertize. Brinkmen just doesn't float my boat, too many electric, that's what I have and want to go with gas. Maybe others........

Thoughts on either
