Electric smoker/grill

Traeger with a couple mods:

Savanah Stoker controller ---awesome
Smoke daddy cold smoke generator
Blanket-saves money on pellets

Set it and forget it is what I like about my Traeger wood pellet smoker. I smoked 2 pork shoulders a couple of weeks ago for a Sunday luncheon. I got up at 2 am, threw the shoulders on the traeger, fired up the smoke daddy cold smoker generator, and get it for 225 deg F and didn't look at the meat until noon time. Traeger with teh Savanah Stoker controller was spot on within 1 degree F of 225 deg and the meat was at 178 deg F. 2 hours later, it was at 201 deg F which is what I consider perfect pulling temperature.

If I were to buy another one, I'd get this brand; http://www.smokedaddyinc.com/products.html#!/Pellet-Grills/c/15885065/offset=0&sort=normal Its cheaper than a Traeger and probably made in the same China factory. Traegers are no longer made in the USA ;-(

We have a "Cookshack" at work.
We'll be doing 90 full racks this week for our annual party this weekend.

Holy balls! That's a pile of ribs! The 'ol cookshack is gunna get a work out! Sounds like fun though!

I own both the green mountain and the traeger. I'm like you, I don't want to babysit a true smoker. I prefer the GM over the traeger for the fact it will smoke colder and grill hotter.

The green mountain is a nice grill. My traeger with SS controller can smoke down to 160 deg F and as high as 500 deg F. If I need it hotter I can put grill grates right over the fire pit. Stock traeger controller sucks.

A good pellet grills is the way to go. I use a reverse sear method and my steaks and porkchops are quite tasty.

Wood pellet grills sometimes don't produce enough smoke flavor because of their incredible temperature stability. I find that 170 deg F with a SS stoker controller gives plenty of smoke for first 2-3 hours and then 225 d finishes everything nicely. When I need extra smoke, usually when I throw in other food items into the grill, I then fire up the Smoke Daddy Cold Smoke Generator. It works great!

Co-worker and I were just talking about this. There are a few bi-fuel smokers. Awesome idea. Use charcoal for flavor or add the propane to maintain heat. You can still smoke without charcoal by using chips, etc.

weston 48" propan smoker

I have a charcoal and propane smokers. I do pretty well with them. We were at TRS's this winter riding and he had a Green Mountain. Whoooaaa that thing was awesome. I know there are some higher grade like Memphis. Purists say it's not smoking. I am busy, I don't have time to babysit the smokers all the time. I do love me some BBQ though.

Are there any downsides to the electric smoker grills?

TIA

just got it havnt used it ye looking for recipies for brisket

We bought a gas grill for its versatility. You don’t need to take a pack of charcoal with you and then clear up the mess after grilling. If you want smoke, then buy a smoker box and use it with your gas grill. Easy.
