battle of the 8s.skidoo spanks the competition

being an orange guy that orange and black xp has got to be the best color scheme they've ever had. makes me ALMOST want to buy one:)

Venting is the key to that all these sleds need it, and to the post that was last years magazine and we all know how the real story went.

Venting is beneficial but is far from the key. It is just the latest "must have" aftermarket add on that helps about 1/2 as much as they claim.

A former XP owner

I had an 06 Rev then bought an 08 XP. I loved the handeling of the XP it was very light in the front end and pulled hard for and 800 and also the 800R engine seemed to have more in the top end then the 06 800 H.O. that I had. I am not going to debate which climbs higher an M8 or a Polaris or an XP because it is largely the rider in most cases in my opinion all three of these 800's are impressive as a stock sled.

What did p#ss me off was all the venting and clutch work I had to do just to keep a friggin belt on the XP and the chance that every pull I made I was waiting for the belt to gernade. Also I would have to stop and let my clutches cool down while my buddies on there cat were making a few more pulls, also p#ssed me off.

Ski doo has a great product, just need to get there sh#t together as far as reliability, I dont go all the way to the mountains to sit and watch people ride.

Pretty sure I will be switching to an M8 next until things change with BRP.

welcome post #1:).that happens alot with all brands with a first year motor/chassis.seems like they all make the customers work the bugs out.they fixed them and the 09 doos dont break belts like the 08s did.the 07-09 m8s are good sleds now.i just wont be buying a first year 2010.hope it runs right for those who do.

With proper setup, the XP's will NOT go through belts.....we have TRIED to blow a belt, even on the 174-2.5 and have been unsuccessful. Stock setup yes....can junk a belt in a day easy. All season, same belt.....I can't complain. I went through more belts on my Cat than the Doo.....and those DOO belts are expensive, so it pays to have good clutching! :beer;;)

maybe next to the warning stickers that say dont remove belt with engine running, skidoo should put how to sidehill and a colorfull pic like this:)

Obviously photoshopped...hehehehehe...

The difference between me and other 13, 14, 15 ect.. year old kids is that I'm all for backing what I say up. I just need a ride. :face-icon-small-fro You can come to Alpine and I'll be glad to meet you and ride with you.

Also, look at my recent post's, I dont go around posting immature crap like alot of the younger generation around here does. Oh, and I can spell worth a damn.
Call me spoiled all you want, Yes I am. But I appreciate EVERYTHING my parents buy me. Ask anyone that knows me, Im no snotty show off.

Jay :D

Hey jay. I'm chris I'm 19. My family has a cabin up in alpine Ive been wanting to go up amd ride but havent made it up. I'm going to definetly make it up this winter. We should meet up and go ride seems like you know the area very well. I'll buy you dinner after at gunnars for being my tour guide ha. I should have a good group come up with me. Be a good time. Oh and I'm spoiled too but yousound like me not a brat and appreciate everything. Oh and I am paying for my 2010 if anyone was wondering..

Last year I totalled my 03 Polaris RMK 700. I was devastated cause it was a sweet ride. I did a lot of research and talked with buddies who owned new sleds from all of the "big four" manufacturers. I was convinced by all the write-ups in magazines, horsepower numbers, claimed weight, and design that the Ski-Doo Rev XP was the sled to buy. However, I had a problem. The closest dealership was 80 miles away. The only local dealership was a Polaris dealer. So, I bought an 800 Dragon.

THANK GOODNESS for the absence of a local Ski-Doo dealer cause the 09 Dragon rips. I know they have their issues (although mine has had none) but I bought one anyway. I don't know about Arctic Cats's M8 climbing ability for I have yet to ride one, but I did get the opportunity to ride a brand new, stock, Ski-Doo XP.

I am not a great rider but love to hillclimb. I raced the XP and climbed with it as well, and the mark I put on the hill with my Dragon killed the mark I left with the XP. The XP had lots of torque off the line but seemed to flatten on the mountain. My dragon pulled harder, floated better, turned easier, and laid a higher mark every time.

I was not biased before riding the XP and until I did I was bummed I did not buy one. People argue all day long on here that their brand of machine is best. From personal experience, (stock vs. stock) my Dragon smoked the 800 XP I rode.

Happy trails fellas'......for the snow is coming soon!!!!

We can all talk **** on how much better my sleds is over yours. In my opinion you cant go wrong with any of todays sleds. As long as you no how to set it up for your type riding, as well as keeping up on the matinance your sled should last. I dont care if the 09 sleds will outclimb me by a few more feet. Sleding is not all about going up. What about coming down, and going all around? Anyone with money can build 250hp sled to go up the gnarly chuts, its all about going down.

mostly true...but sidehilling an XP is like balancing 3 chicken soft tacos on your forehead while running with no feet...sure it can be done, but why?:lips::cool::beer;

Oh-My-Lanta...........I don't care who ya are........that's some funny stuff right there!! Thanks for the laugh brother! Ha-ha-ha...........

My old 2000 rmk is easier and more fun to boondock and sidehill than my buddies 09 xp. XP's are only the best on the few days where bottomless powder can be found, or when you want to climb straight up hills all day, they're really tough to beat there.

M8 vs 800XP vs D8 up a hill = 800XP win
M8 vs 800XP vs D8 everywhere else = D8 or M8 win

Same results here, and I own both a 08 d163 and a09 xp 154 .
I do have a slp single on the dragon , thats it.
Even in real deep powder the dragon will mark it . I was told it might be the set up on the xp so last season a ski doo guy came out.
He came out with his xp , same results so I gave up on trying to get more out of it.
I do like the xp on the trail or flats.

I totally agree. Another variable is the rider him/her self. I ride with all brands (except yammi) and they all have their weak/strong points, but the rider is probably the biggest factor of all.

Cheers....and LET IT SNOW already!!! :D

I owned a M8 for years and loved it. Now I have a KTM530 with a Track kit on it. If you think you can side hill, I would love to take you into the trees of Co and scare the living daylights out of you. Nothing will touch one of these. I would put large amounts of money on it. LOL It wont go straight up, but will go sideways till your sick of it.:D
