Bashing the XP

I had 3 XP 800's last year. About 3000 combined miles. The only problem was the hand grips heaters. Roasted a lot of belts until the new 377 came out and then never lost a belt the rest of the year. Everyone on here likes to bash the new sleds. I ride as hard as anyone and this sled held up awesome. I was actually surprised how well it held to together with all the tree riding and bumping I do. Knocked a lot of trees and never bent anything. I've owned about every sled made in the last 6 years and this is as well built as any of them and its lite as sheit.
 
chucked a motor at 200 miles :eek:and some belts till the motor alignment and the 377 belt but all smiles here--going to pick up 2 new 154 x's in 30 minutes :D:):beer;:beer;
 
I've rode all the lengths and think the 163 is overkill. alot of other people on here will say the same. Just my opinion but the 146 is plenty, and the 154 is perfect for the really deep, 163 seamed a little overkill for the xp chassis


I have a 154 and last year there was only two days out of an epic season that I wish I had a 163, but what the heck, if you're not digging yourself out once in a while, your not riding on the edge ...right?

My only problems was the grip heaters - repaired under warranty, and a few blown belts before the 377 came out, and every blown belt was replaced by my dealer free of charge, they only asked how many miles on the belt before it blew?

The air intake was a broblem in deep powder, but that has been addressed and changed on the 09 model.

The only thing I don't like about the XP is it doesn't handle very well in Spring type conditions, prefer and rode my Rev after the powder turned hard. But then again, the XP is the best deep powder sled I ever rode, and that's what I ride most of the season.

I guess the XP is OK!:D

Most of the 08 owners had a few problems, but it is still a great sled to ride. Driveshaft, belt issues, and handwarmers were the main problems on mine. I would be another one again for sure.

Absolutly love mine!!!

For the first few rides I had to get used to it after riding my KK900 which I really cany ever ride again. Ijust have so much fun riding the xp.

The biggest assets to me is it pulls hard, goes great, and I can ride it all day and not feel spent at the end of the day.

I would not even consider anything else and I have yet to see a stock 800 beat the xp's.

I said this before but im 245 plus gear and beer and this things goes as good if not better then my old modded KK900, but WAY more fun!!!

If your buying the 08, I'd recomend the DJ clutch kit, add some weight to the primary, get the updated arms, & bushings. Maybe some new shoes(personal preference), cut the head to bump up your compression, and just the other updates your dealer should do before you pick it up. The 163" is the best way to go espically in MT where it gets deep. You'll be happier than a pig in chit after the 1st good powder day. Also, make sure they charge your rear suspension up to 300lbs. They do just fine on day's like this. The only times you notice the longer track is when your coming back down the hill to dig out the shorter tracks.

I rode Chubby's XP the same day that pic of him was taken, and I was impressed with the sled. Granted, that sled is hard to get used too, but it went anywhere it was pointed. Chubbs jumped on my old M and he was getting stuck left and right. So what I am trying to say, the XP will make a poor rider look good...... :)
 
08 146 Everest for the wife

A little setup goes a long way. Changed handwarmers, DJ's clutching, gear change and moved the bearing on the jackshaft to aligne the clutches. All year on the original 166 belt and it still looked new, but I traded it in at the end of the season for a new 377 for free. Deep bottomless POW most of the season and the sled was flawless. We liked it so much I'm moving my perfect 06 151 to a backup role and ordered myself a 09 146X. Last year I rode steeper and deeper and slower trying to find a spot that I couldn't power out of. No luck. So this year I'll be on it full time to find it's limits. That is the reason I went 146 instead of 154, I want to have a little more of a challange. Like in the Deep Powder Challange the 146 went everywhere, just not as fast.

The best part.....the wife didn't get stuck...not once all year....Priceless

Hey oredigger: After riding polaris for 20 years, I switched to an XP 154 last year. I weigh 325 pounds without gear. I had to tow out a 900 rmk with a broken crank, and guess what? It didn't bend or break anything, and my driveshaft is still good. I put over 1000 miles on, and the only issue is some rear sag (I get that on most of my sleds). Don't listen to all the bashing. All the issues the XP's have had so far are all covered under warranty. That's a lot more than I can say for my old 900. Now if they would just put a 1000cc in it.....

Upgrade to the stiffer rear springs and have the rear shock rebuilt/revalaved - problem solved

SHR 860R isnt a 1000...but runs like one...BJ:face-icon-small-win
 
Mine Sucks! I have an '08 154x that I hate. It climbs way too good. Handles the bumps great. Goes like stink through the trees, and makes me smile everytime I ride it. Sorry, I couldn't resist. They are AWESOME mountain sleds. I have pounded mine too death without breaking a driveshaft or anything else. I weigh 220lbs. and like to fly! I did tweak the front end on a rock-a rock that also broke my thumb- costing me $400 to fix it. I did have belt issues, but Felkers has got the problem fixed. They are very impressive in the pow. I know that they did leave some guys stranded out in the hills, but I wasn't one of them, so I'm a happy camper!

Thanks B, that's why I was trying to get you to buy one! :D That could have been the same day you burried that little M 75' from the truck, and only 15' off the road. LOL!

Chubbs, This flatlander had to get his mountain legs back. And after I did, that little 141" spanked your arse all day long! Better watch out this year, I finally have a real sled sitting in the garage!!! :)
 
bought the 163, basically liked the sled....power to weight was great...open powder was excellent....didn't throw over as good as an m sled or dragon, but would out climb either....didn't like the nagging feeling that a drive shaft might break and how am i going to get out of this canyon...clutching wasn't good from the factory (what's new?)......but my biggest problem was that at 250 miles the throttle stuck wide open while riding in the trees, with no time to react, the sled was totalled, by arm was broken (out of work), and ski-doo wouldn't honor their warranty, fix the sled, the problem or rectify the situation in any way.....there were others who encountered the same situation (minus the broken arm), and all ski-doo does is sit on their azzes in valcort and try to let the problem go away......so would someone at ski-doo please open the company safe and let your managers have their cajones back??......yeah, i'm still here and will be until you do what's right
