Bashing the XP

It seems like there are a lot of negative threads on here about the XP. Warranty issues, drive shaft recall, belts, re-gearing, etc.

Is it really that bad? I've owned doo's for 10 years and have been looking at an XP for this year, 163. Guys have told me that it is the best sled they have ever owned, some have said that they have been lightened-up too much and they fold-up when bump into stuff.

Looking for some feedback.

Mine Sucks! I have an '08 154x that I hate. It climbs way too good. Handles the bumps great. Goes like stink through the trees, and makes me smile everytime I ride it. Sorry, I couldn't resist. They are AWESOME mountain sleds. I have pounded mine too death without breaking a driveshaft or anything else. I weigh 220lbs. and like to fly! I did tweak the front end on a rock-a rock that also broke my thumb- costing me $400 to fix it. I did have belt issues, but Felkers has got the problem fixed. They are very impressive in the pow. I know that they did leave some guys stranded out in the hills, but I wasn't one of them, so I'm a happy camper!

Nice pic

Sweet pic there, Trinity.
As far as the XP bashing - as soon as one posts a problem on the internet, all of a sudden EVERYONE has a problem - I believe the medical condition is called "ME 2!". Some of the posters (posers), don't even own the model affected... I don't own an XP (dealer prompted me to switch brands), but one of my riding buddies does, and it works very well - if I could find a good dealer in my area I'd likely be riding one.

98% of the people bashing them don't own one. If they can't bash them on the hills, they have to do it on the internet. JMO! In fact, the biggest XP basher of all doesn't even own a sled. :D He'll be on here in a little bit to let you know what a POS it it. It's by far the funnest mountain sled I've ever rode. I kept my 08 for this year, because they didn't really do anything new. They are replacing all the parts that people had problems with for the 09 parts. You shouldn't have nothing to worry about after you get all the updates done.

Xp ok

I witnessed an XP that hit a ditch at about 60mph last year. It landed on right side ski and cart wheeled several times. Bent a spindle and broke some platic and thats it. Driver was knocked out at impact but ok. This is a tough sled, don't kid yourself. Get the clutching dialed in(Dynamo Joe) and hang on.
Another riding buddy has his clutching down pat thanks to DJ and his kit and I've seen how it rocks and no more belt issues either.

I would have to agree . . most of the people on here bashing xp's are the ones that got their a$$ stomped on the hill last year. I can't wait for my new one to show up . . . I'm sitting by the phone waiting for the call!!

Yep, there such pieces of crap that I bought one for this year. I watched 2 buddies on 154 XP's out climb every sled out there all year except a boosted nytro, that sled was bad ***. We had an amazing snow year last year and the XP's were insane, when it gets really, really deep they are one of the few stock sleds that can get through it.
They did have some reliability issues but once the updates are done they seem to be fine.

Another BAD XP

I rode the XP 163 last year... WOW,,, what fun... Oh yes, I had the axle break,, Doo & my dealer put a new one in last year,, & they are going to change it again, even thow it didn't break again. I smashed a stump in a full speed carve early last year,,, a small tweek but still riding it anyway. Strong, light, nothing will touch it in the deep & steep. Oh & did I say FUNNNN! The most fun is when you come to a hill everyone is climbing, go over the top, they all just leave :).

another reason for the bashing is that the few that have had problems are just sitting at home with nothing to do but talk smack. i am sure the reason thier arent as many threads of stoked XP riders is that they are all out on the hill climbing gnarly chutes and scaring the crap out of the tree hugging hippie cross country skiers instead of sitting at home on the computer...

DANG, this has me JACKED to get on my new smurf that is sitting in the shop wiating for the snow to fly!!! I just hope with my weight of 135 approx with gear on, that I can handle that 800 154....hehe!!!! ;)

And who would that be?

Maybe Graveler! BWA HA HA HA HA HA!

WTB xp

This is good. I am going to buy one. 163.

Keep the xp info coming.

Its snowing in northwest mt. Won't be long now, time to bust some pow yards.

rented a 154 in cooke last march - i was sold. Rode with 3 other xp's for 2 trips - 1 blown belt was it. The sled would go anywhere and then some. Had yamaha all my life. Bought a new moutain apex 2 years ago. Got rid of it the following spring. The thing weighs 170# more than an xp! my new xp is waiting for me in the shop! The only crappy thing is waiting until December to get it

FYI, Gravy has been hanging out at (of all places) DOO TALK!!!!

I initially threw the XP out of the running when I was looking at my 09 options...however, I spoke to the knowledgeable people on here, sifted fact from BS and rode what the others offered...and guess what???? I'm on an 09 XP 154" for this year. This is my first Doo too!!!

Don't let the haters scare you. Shift through the BS on your own and make YOUR decision. Spend a day on one. Not a five minute bs ride. Get out there and see what it can do. I guarantee if you give it an honest flogging, you'll want one.

OUT HERE.

I've rode all the lengths and think the 163 is overkill. alot of other people on here will say the same. Just my opinion but the 146 is plenty, and the 154 is perfect for the really deep, 163 seamed a little overkill for the xp chassis

If your buying the 08, I'd recomend the DJ clutch kit, add some weight to the primary, get the updated arms, & bushings. Maybe some new shoes(personal preference), cut the head to bump up your compression, and just the other updates your dealer should do before you pick it up. The 163" is the best way to go espically in MT where it gets deep. You'll be happier than a pig in chit after the 1st good powder day. Also, make sure they charge your rear suspension up to 300lbs. They do just fine on day's like this. The only times you notice the longer track is when your coming back down the hill to dig out the shorter tracks.
