Baker??

Didn't rain today at Bear Paw, but there was evidence of rain from the last week. Snow was pretty hard... needs a couple 3 days of sunshine to help soften it up.

Yee haw!

We drove up to the past all 3 switchbacks and we were the first sledders to park behind about 10 or so cars of climbers. They all seamed very nice and waved as we rode by them slowly. We rode about 3 short bare spots in the
road (maybe 300 ' each) The trail was not bad as far as whoops and that was a big relief. Up above it was wierd not to see any riders enjoying the day,
but they came latter. Lots of rocks showing near outcroppings and ridges
but tons of snow still. We hit big house then went down to the horse barn
and it is burried, gone , nothing but a bump in the snow. Saw some good avy
damage to trees from those sick conditions we got earlier this year down by the horse barn. We found a cave up on the mountain which is tied to the
volcano, been by this place many times and never saw it before, hidden by
a tree. Ate lunch up by the lookout in the hot sun, man that was great.
If you think you might be done sledding it would be worth your trip to get up
there one more time on a sunny day and enjoy some great ridding in June.
I'll post some pics latter, Sparks

i was up there. snow softened up late in the day.......snow was pretty crummy.lost aprox 3ft in the medows in one week. down to about 4-5 ft now.im guessing one more week, if the weather stays the same, 2 weeks at best. and it will be closed. its amazing how quickly it changes up there.
typical of spring ridding we had some carnage.2 incidents that im aware of.
ill let the ones involved tell the story....

SORRY WASHINGTON ITS JUST ABOUT OVER (MAYBE BEARPAW?????)

It's not almost over! I guess it depends on what you consider rideable. I am certain that 3 weeks from now you could still put 30 miles of decent trail and boondocking on at Greenwater of all places. There is still 4-5 feet in the trees. It was funny watching all the guys on there bike and quads yesterday saying "This sucks! Still way too much snow for us."

From the reports I've heard, we may get into BearPaw in July. If so, how about a SW 4th of July ride up there? OK, I'm in!!

Already Planning a 4th weekend party. Should be 6to10 sleds...maybe more. BBQ Beers, Babes??;) Keep your fingers crossed for good weather!! Add to thread if your planning to be up there too. The more the merry'r:D

It was another beautiful day at Mt. Baker! Until some dumbars decided to try out the rocks..........

Thanks Mike, Gary (I hope I remember right), Matt & Brent for your help yesterday from a girl with a busted Naomi (Dragon's name), a fractured bone in right hand, a nicely swollen left elbow and many black bruises throughout her body! I think the percstruff worked me over worse than the owies.... :)

I'll be able to hold onto Naomi's handlebars by the 4th....... let's go camping & riding boys!!! :D

Baker conditions???

Mtn Mike- So it sounds like there is about 4 feet where you cross the bridge to head into Schreiber's meadow? Is that the area you were measuring?

If that is the case, then yes, we probably only have 2 more weekends left of riding Baker, before the FS say no more riding. Please let me know as I was hoping to get up there for the weekend of June 14th...

Later,
MC

freezing level at 3,000 ft right now (lower than Schreibers), 1-2 ft above 5,000 ft (hood hill)...... WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday looks to be the better day at this point........ :D :D :D :D :D :D

...A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BRING SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL TO
THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE CASCADES AND OLYMPICS TODAY..

RAIN AND SNOW WILL INCREASE OVER THE MOUNTAINS OF WESTERN WASHINGTON
THIS MORNING...BECOMING HEAVY AT TIMES THROUGH THE DAY. THE MAIN
SNOW LEVEL WILL HOVER NEAR 3500 FEET BUT TEMPERATURES WILL BE
MARGINAL FOR ACCUMULATING SNOW BETWEEN 4000 AND 5500 FEET. THE
HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED LATER THIS MORNING AND AFTERNOON
WHEN UP TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW COULD FALL AT THE HIGHER PASSES. ABOVE
5500 FEET...COLDER TEMPERATURES WILL ALLOW ALL THE FALLING SNOW TO
STICK WITH UP TO 2 FEET EXPECTED BY THIS EVENING. THIS WILL RESULT
IN A HAZARD FOR MOUNTAINEERING AND TRAVEL IN THE HIGH BACKCOUNTRY
WITH POOR VISIBILITY...WINDY CONDITIONS...COLD TEMPERATURES...AND
THE POSSIBILITY OF RENEWED AVALANCHE ACTIVITY.

PEOPLE DRIVING OVER THE HIGHER HIGHWAYS INCLUDING STEVENS PASS..
CHINOOK PASS...WASHINGTON PASS...THE ROAD TO PARADISE...AND THE
ROAD TO HURRICANE RIDGE...WILL LIKELY ENCOUNTER SNOW...POOR
VISIBILITY...AND SOME WIND. HOWEVER ACCUMULATIONS ON THE ROADS WILL
GENERALLY BE THREE INCHES OR LESS.

 2 feet of fresh? Now all we need is some visibility.
