Bad weekend

I bought A 09 dragon 800 that with 700 miles on it 2 weeks ago. It had all the updates from polaris done to it so I thought it would be good for awhile. well that lasted 2 rides and 59 miles before the motor went. Looks like maybe the piston skirt broke and jambed the rod then the rod broke in half and the part that stayed with the crank did some major damage. It took out reed and reed cage, crank, injector and wireing and bottom part of the jug. So know I am looking for a new motor anybody have some suggestions on places that sell motors? Only place that I can find is Ducan brothers sales a complete motor with the Dragon saver kit for $2150.

Indy Specialty has a Long Rod motor for $2500. If you're going to spend 2150 on that motor I would spend a little extra for Dan's, he has made quite a few improvements to the motor and backs it with a 3 year warranty.

Builder801 you tried one of the Ducan brother motors did he warranty it at all. They told me they would give me a one year warranty. I emailed Indy Specialty to see what they can do for a motor. Thanks guys for the info.

I put a Indy Speciality in my 09 Assault, has a 3 year warrenty very happy with Dan and all his help. Cant wait to try it out west,on our way Feb 22 2013. He did some clutch work on mine, it seems to pull very hard, we need more snow to really tell. I am sure he can help you and have piece of mind when your out in the back country.:face-icon-small-hap

You could go this route or even easier, drop a carb'd Liberty into it. About the same price. It took a few days to locate a good donor sled that was getting parted out, a few calls to get misc parts (mostly calling around for a blank engine plate-supplied by FTX) and a couple weekends putting it all together. Best part, I spaced clutches to use Cat belts and they're $40 a piece.

Got it thank you. I am tossed up on what to do found four people so far that will build me a motor but they are 2-4k and all seem to be rebuilt different. They all say they will stand behind there motors (At least that's what they say).

Indy Dan 3 year warranty (long rod kit) $3500

Sunny side salvage. 2011 800 complete motor if it fits. $2900
Rebuilt 800 with SPI pistons renik jugs $1950
Says he stands behind his work

Ducan brothers. Dragon saver kit one year warranty $2150

eBay Used motor $1800 mtk fix kit $585 total $2385 no warranty

Oh what to do.

When you figure out which is the best way to go let met know. My 2010 D8, 1080 miles did the same thing and clutch side as well on Dec. 27th. It never bent the rod though, so I don't think the piston skirt was the first fail. Looks like the rod failed and it ripped everything from the cylinder skirts down to the motor mount, including bottom injector, reeds, fuel rail, etc. Only parts not effected was the head, throttle body and y-pipe.

Anybody have experience working with Sunny Side salvage or All Power sport Racing? They both seem to be nice over the phone and both can build me a motor for about the same price.

3 year warranty sounds awfully good to me. Especially if you plan to keep the sled a while.

I know its the most expensive....but.....I'd go with Indydan.......Been around along time and I think everyone can vouch that he is a stand up guy.

I would love to go with Indydan's motor but I just don't have the extra $3500 for his motor. I am thinking I am going with Sunny side I have talked to them several times on their motor, they seem like stand up guys (I hope). Motor will come with renik cylinders, SPI pistons, new crank and bearings. Also planning on adding PC V

That does absolutely nothing to fix the issue you had before so from the first pull its going be tick tock until it goes down again just like the engine you had. Going the cheap route to get you back on the snow without addressing why you had the failures in the first place isnt getting you anywhere long term.

The IQ chassis is great but the engines are junk which is why mine has a 910 Carls engine it it. The only way i will ride it is with the old big block based engines in it.

Not a 100 percent sure but the 2011 motor runs the cfi 2 not the cfi 4. The ecu may not work. If that's the case the ecu and harnesses will probably get you close to the Indy Dan motor. I would find out for sure.
