need a Shovel for my HMK pack Back . i want one with a saw in the Handle
what is a good quality Brand

I picked up a new voile a few weeks back w/saw and its great... Bought it through this site and got a 15 or 20% discount to i think

Vollie or HMK Either are the same shovel as Vollie makes them for HMK. If I had to do it over though I would find a shovel with the extendable handle. might get one anyway and use mine as spare.

I have an Orthovox that I really like, you can attatch the shovel end to the top handle and use it like a pick, using it that way you can move alot of powder fast. just my .02

The good thing about the Voile is that it uses a saws-all blade. If the brade ever breaks, you can just replace it with a new saws-all blade. Other shovels, you have to get a new saw from the mfg.

Check them out at: www.snowbigdeal.com

Most people like the woodsaw for snowmobiling. The snow saw is more for if you are going to be digging a snow pit to test snow stability.

Another vote for the Voile saw. Love mine, collapsible handle, saw blade in side. Very light and strong enough to chip ice away from around tires :-)

Thanks Every one for your help , i think i will go with the Voile

make sure that whatever you get that it has a METAL scoop on it, the plastic ones are worthless in anything but powder.

If you need to dig into a hill that has slid, a plastic one WILL break, no sense in buying something that you can't use in all situations.

Mine is a Polaris shovel with the extendable handle and has a sawzall blade style saw in it, haven't used the saw on any trees yet, but the shovel has been used plenty and 2 other guys that have plastic shovels couldn't use theirs in the hardpack snow.

my $.02:beer;

Dakine Poacher Pack, any good metal shovel......

Then again I carry alot of crap
exactly.

Dakine Poacher, BCA Shovel with spare probe in handle.

the saws that attach to the shovel handle are worthless IMO. Buy yourself a Wyoming Saw II put it in your pack and forget about it until you need it. Came in -very- handy twice last year...

I agree...It is alot easier, and there are many more options to just carry a saw in your pack. I carry a gerber folding saw thats only about 2.5 inches wide and 10 inches long. It is VERY sharp and comes with an extra blade. Will cut through anything.

I love my ortovox! Sure it was expensive but i bought it like 8 years ago and it still....is a shovel. If i was buying a new one i could get a HMK pack and shovel.
