Axys Sidekick Base Kit

The patent on the tunnel dump exhaust...this has been challenged by many various times. I was curious, and for anybody else that is the patent is US8056654 B2 originally filed by Bret Rasmussen in February of 2010. Pretty interesting...Boondocker, LLC is listed as the assignee.

Its funny that people keep saying others don't use a tunnel dump because of a patent....We don't do it because our customers don't want to take a holesaw to their new sled. :face-icon-small-win

Its good for the consumer to have options.

liking what you said about a quieter muffler

an chance of getting a DB reading ?

i was thinking about starting a thread about just that
it'd be great if us consumers could get an idea about
the noise levels of each kit
thanks

I don't feel like my sled is obnoxiously loud. Has a good sound and it's not as bad as some aftermarket cans are.

Standard muffler is loud. Took the sled out last weekend and when you really get into the throttle you raise your eyebrows and think to yourself, "she's a screamer ?"
Still not as loud as my buddy's GGB MTN can though.

I am planning to be tested (stock and turbo sleds) as soon as we have snow and will definitely report back. It's a very important subject to me being that I work under a permit and have to co-exist with the forest service in the best manner possible. On a personal level, I used to be a huge fan of loud everything. Snowmobiles, motorcycles, pickups, and anything else with an engine. HAHA as I've aged a bit, things have definitely changed due to many factors. I now understand the importance of doing everything we can individually in our control to put out a positive vibe and keep riding areas open. Also, being on the snow almost every day working with people on sleds, I'm off of my sled a good portion of the day and have a lot more appreciation for a quiet sled.

Here's a bit more info on the Colorado sound law-
"Snowmobiles
‐SAE J2567 is the procedure used to measure sound levels of stationary snowmobile exhaust systems in
Colorado.
No snowmobile operated in the state shall emit more than the following levels:
‐Manufactured on or after 7/1/1972 and before 7/2/1975……..90db(a)
‐Manufactured on or after 7/2/1975………………………………………..88db(a)
‐No new snowmobile can be sold that does not meet state sound levels unless it meets federal noise
emission.
Definition
"Snowmobile" means a self‐propelled vehicle primarily designed or altered for travel on snow or ice
when supported in part by skis, belts, or cleats and designed primarily for use off the public highways.
"Snowmobile" shall not include machinery used strictly for the grooming of snowmobile trails or ski
slopes."

sounds great
yeah it seems like with turbo kit companies
attempting to address noise levels with new muffler designs
maybe we can start to get better input on which kits are the quietest

then the consumer can decide what the prefer

Has anybody received their kit yet? If they really were shipped a couple weeks ago we should be seeing them by now.

2017 sidekick

got my sidekick yesterday and installed it last night. Took my time and took about 5 hrs. Changed alot from last year. Really looks good and sounds pretty quiet in shop. Just need a snowstorm now. Doesn't look like that's going to happen here for awhile.:face-icon-small-sad
