Axys 3" review

Looking to hear reviews on the 3" set up on the Axys. Not to much information out there. I am sure lots were sold. If you own one or have riden one please share your thoughts. Pros and cons. Just the 3" on the axys! Thanks.

I own a 3" 155 Axys and I am happy with it overall, but I would say that it really doesn't make that much of a difference except in really deep snow compared to the 2.6". Only once this year did I see an actual gain with the 3". I would say go with the 2.6" and put a TKI belt drive on and gear it for around 2.3. I do love the gearing that comes stock with the 3".

We have two 163 3" Axys Pros.

Bought them used, late in the season but first day out was 3-4' of fresh. Awesome!

Val (5'2" 115 lbs) made the transition from her Pro Ride like a champ. Throwing it around and burying her shoulder in pow turns. She loved it. She probably would love a 2.6" also but she has never ridden one.

I looked for the 3" for chaincase, aluminum rear bumper, solid snow flap and they are more unique when it comes to resale. Plus, if I hated the 3" I could always put on a 2.6 and sell the 3" track. I don't see that happening though.

Riding style does change slightly... In deep pow it's the same. In more setup snow you have to be more aggressive with the throttle to keep the track spinning to pivot-- if you let off the throttle, the lugs grab and send you forward.

With a rain crust and sugar underneath, you needed to be careful with the throttle opening-- smooth to stay on top and drive forward versus hammering the throttle and sawing down through the rain crust.

Overall, stoked on the 3", thinking of picking up a 2.6" Power Claw (3.0" pitch) to try it out also.

I put 750 miles on my 163 3". was very happy with it and I loved the gearing for my riding style. I like the chain case and not having to carry a spare quick drive belt. We had 4 axys's in our group and they all had 3" tracks on them so I never compared it to a 2.6".

I would agree on loving the lower gearing on the 3" but I'm really a tree whore....the sled was great in Revy 5-6 trips but my group has 2.6's as well and they went as good most of the time.

Had to ride heavier spring snow last month or so in WA and the 2.6" walks by my 3" on a long climb as it seemed like the over-all ride was less stable. Had a hard time sidehilling on a steep canyon wall...seemed like the track was prone to slipping and washing out and kept trying to turn uphill.
