AVY training dvd?

Does anyone know of an avalanche training dvd that I could buy? I would like to go to a class personally but being from ND there isn't many options. I know there was a couple in ND this winter but my work schedule didn't allow for me to go.

I would be interested in this also. We try to go to an avy class every year, but sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Whereabouts in ND are you? A company called Zacs Tracs comes to Regina Saskatchewan every November and gives avy training courses. I believe it's only about 3 hours to Minot from there give or take.

Northeastern part of ND. But work keeps me plenty busy. I think a DVD of some sort would be an awesome opportunity for someone who teaches the classes. There was a class in rugby and fargo this year but I couldn't make it to either. I really want to attend one of these classes but life's a b***& and I have to make a living. I consider myself a very cautious person but would like to learn more.

The Fine Line

An excellent DVD for you is The Fine Line available through BCA or directly from the filmmakers. $20 http://www.sherpascinema.com/

We use the tutorials for classes and it is always well received. The feature film itself is a bit long with a lot of ski **** but it is entertaining and educational. Worth getting for the 4 separate shorts on Rescue, Choosing Terrain, Predicting Avalanches and Understanding Avalanche Bulletins.

Hope this helps.

I ordered the fine line. Will report back when I get it and watch it. Thanks guys!

"Think like an avalanche" is another video you may want to look at. http://www.telemarktips.com/VidRevThnkAvy.html

If you don't mind reading a little, there are some books that cover avalanches a little more thoroughly. These are the books I recommend to my avy students.

books that are quick reads:

ABC's of avalanche safety by Ed LaChapelle (some terms are outdated but still worth the read)

http://www.amazon.com/ABCs-Avalanche-Safety-Sue-Ferguson/dp/0898868858

Snow sense by doug fessler

http://www.amazon.com/Snow-Sense-Ev...TF8&qid=1366126880&sr=1-1&keywords=snow+sense

Secrets of the Snow by Ed LaChapelle (terrific at speeding along your forecasting learning curve)

http://www.amazon.com/Secrets-Snow-...366127020&sr=1-1&keywords=secrets+of+the+snow

Longer read:

Staying alive in avalanche terrain by Bruce Tremper (very comprehensive and relatively easy to read for the material covered)

http://www.amazon.com/Staying-Alive...1&keywords=staying+alive+in+avalanche+terrain

I will be having classes in your area this coming winter. Working on the schedule now and it will be posted on www.avalanche1.com. There's no substitute for taking a classroom session and then getting the hands-on training. Problem with many of the dvd's is that they do not have snowmobile specific information.
