Average Oil Consumption 800 Dragon

Anyone that has a 800 Dragon please state what you usually get (mileage) out of a entire tank of "OIL". I consistently get 55-65 miles out of an entire tank of OIL. I think this is ridiculous and expensive and I am currently fighting the dealer over this issue because they say all the oil injection settings are spot on. Anyone else have this issue? Sled just now has 370 miles on it and it's a 155. I enjoy WOT but still shouldn't get that bad of oil consumption.

Thoughts?

Mine is just the opposite. I could probably get at least 3 tanks of gas per 1 tank of oil.
My D8 uses less oil than any other machine I've ever owned.

Find a new dealer! Or adjust the oil pump down. Assuming you go thru a tank of gas in the same miles, it's running about 15:1.
The M7 was running about 25:1 when I bought it. Couldn't tell anything was wrong, no fouled plugs, ran good, just used almost 2 qts per tank of gas. Have it adjusted to about 40:1 now and it runs the same, just uses half the oil.

Sorry I can't speak for the D8. But my wifes D7 will go for 2 60 mile rides on a tank with oil to spare. You need to adjust your oiler. I had the same problem with an 05 900. Your Dealer prep sucks.

oil use

Granted Im from sea level, but my 07 600 cfi at 60-1 ratio goes 400+ miles on a tank of oil. Alot of WFO on the river and lakes too, 4000 miles and counting. When in doubt, LEANer out.

Thanks Guys..... I didn't think that could be right...... but the dealer is toping off the oil tank and sending me for a ride this weekend and they want to measure everything consumed in the alotted amount of miles per Polaris instructions. Anyone know how to adjust this your self? I'm fimilar with the old style polaris oil pump adjustments.

a few of the 07 dragons had a problem with over oiling and it was a faulty oil pump(mine included) The problem couldn't be fixed by adjusting the cable, they actually changed my pump out. I dont know if the problem was fixed for all the 08's or not but you should run this by your dealer. Next time you ride start out with full gas and oil, then at the end of the day re-fill both fluids and record how much you used (in litres is the best if you can) then divide the 2 to get oil ratio as in 20-1, 40-1 etc. the new motors should get a bit better than 50-1 and if it's as low as 20-1 there's not much chance of being able to adjust it back up to normal, probably a bunk pump

normal use should be 1 quart per 10 gallons of gas...if running wot it might go as high as a quart and a half for 10 gallons of gas....I have noticed on my D-8 that it gets uses less at lower throttle setting then at full throttle..but 1 qt for 1o gallons = 40-1 ratio...

I have used 3 - jugs (1 US gal) in 1150 mies in my D8 - 155. I thought is wasn't using enough but the dealer said these sleds were using less oil than older models.

my d8 155 runs 2 - 65 mile rides with oil left, 3 rides might be iffy, seems like not enough to me, my 03 edge 800 would do exactly 2 rides and on the way back to the truck the light would come on:beer;

I get 2 full rides before the oils down to a quarter bottle.

Does this oil usage have anything to do with the type of oil you are using? Buddy has an '07 Dragon 7, he uses about one tank of oil to one tank of gas, he is also running Amsoil Interceptor. Dealer told him that oil pumps were calibrated to work using Polaris Synthetic Gold oil. They want him to switch back to Polaris oil before they adjust the pump (which is a PITA on these new sleds). Dealer says that the pumps on the '07s and '08's have all been spot on, and its the first they have heard of this problem :).

No I'm using the Polaris recommended oil for this sled. Sounds to me that this has a oil pump problem but we'll let these guys at the dealer figure it out, this is exactly what the warranty is for. Thanks for all the feed back.

oil usage

I have D8-155 also. Only use 1 qt oil per 10 gallons gas. I use Polaris full synthetic and ride in Snowies.

Finally got Polaris to put a new oil pump on this pig. In 39.1 miles this D8 drank 1100 cc's of oil. 27:1 average ratio. They tried to tell me it was just fine at first and was running a 50:1 average ratio, but I just wouldn't take that answer. They weren't the ones buying a gallon of oil every other ride. So after all Polaris authorized a new oil pump. Hopefully that fixes it.

I have 1150 miles on my D8 right now. Up until about 1000 miles I could get 2 days (about 3/4 tank each day) and at the end of the second day the oil light was just coming on. When my dealer did the 1000 mile maintenance one of the things they said they did was adjust the oil pump. It now seems to use just a little less oil now than it did before. My 800 edge seemed to have a larger oil tank but I am not positive.

Good to know, they are putting the new oil pump on as we speak and they are also cleaning the exhaust valves to make sure the average 25:1 didn't cake the valves up. I sure hope this is the fix. I'd love to ride 100 + miles and not have to carry extra OIL with me.... carrying extra gas I'm ok with, OIL no way!
