Great outcome! Great buddy! Do you happen to recall what the, if any, Avy report was that day?

Just wanted to give everyone an update.....YES i am still riding and YES i am a lot more cautious. I used to live to climb hills but now I am satisfied with just playin around in the trees. I still cant emphasize enough how unpredictable avalanches are and no matter how much we can prepare for them (i.e. beacons, probes, training, ABS bags) it still will not prevent an avalanche. These forces are so incredibly powerful, I can not put into words exactly how it was to be thrown around. I never thought it would happen to me, and it did. Please be careful out there and I hope anybody who reads this wont ever have to experience what I did. Unfortunately im afraid it will happen to some.

Thanks again for the continued support!
-Josh

One more thing...the avalanche forecast for that day was MODERATE

Wow...appreciate the post. Go hug your buddy and give thanks to the guy upstairs...God Bless and glad you're here to have a Merry Christmas...:beer;

Well nobody mentioned this yet, but that last little prayer you said just might have saved your life. And your buddy, he must have been your guardian angel :)

That story is truly amazing...

Thanks for Sharing

Glad to hear both of you made it through a terrible situation okay. This sport is risky, and we should all be prepared for the worst.

I am new to the sport and find it interesting that outside of the ABS pack and the AvaLung, the only options are to assess and avoid terrain, and if that doesn't go well, dig out. I've bought an ABS pack in hopes that if I do get caught, the ABS pack will provide a middle step between avoiding and digging.

#1 Take an Av class
#2 Always ride with a beacon, shovel, probe
#3 ABS is nice to add to the list.
#4 Be prepared to spend a night or two in the woods every time you leave the trailhead.
#5 Be observant to your surroundings.
#6 TAKE AN AV CLASS AGAIN!!!

Those 2 things are pretty important. Im not taking a shot at the 2 guys involved cause I have played in that very spot with Sellaz and never thought it would slide. What kills me is riders that climb spots and haven't checked the avy danger for the area or just disregard it when others tell them.

Amen Deadcat. Why would anyone ride without Avy equipment on ant given day in the mountains? Make it a habit that everbody in the group has it every time they ride or they do not ride with you.
