Avalanche Beacons

Looking into getting a beacon this year finally. Just wonder what a good one is to get, also a decent price. Kinda looked at a BCA tracker, seems like a nice unit, fair price also. Any input??

Also any dealers on here that carry some? May have a group buy if we can get a discounted price. Thanks

we have the bca trackers also and have had no problems, although we've really never needed them other than to practice with

I want my riding buddies to all have the new Ortovox S1! I'll do fine with anything! eh he

Kind of like your life insurance policy....it sucks to have to use it..so I work hard on not having too!

Seriously...who you chose to ride with and how they behave is far more important then what avy tool you chose to buy.

BRAIN, BEACON,SHOVEL, PROBE

The biggest thing(does not matter what beacon) is practice with the ones you ride with. Know your equipment and how to use it.
Many places out west give free or cheap classes.
You just can't hand a beacon to a friend and expect them to find you FAST.

also as above a shovel and probe is a must. A phone call before you head out to the local Avalanche Center is a good idea. (also check the web.)

I ride with a BCA.... Super-easy to use, fast acquisition, and on the cheaper side of beacons. Only thing I don't like about it is the harness and the way it fits with a tekvest.

SnowBigDeal on here sells them and includes free shovel/probe.

Ride safe.

Thanks guys! Some of the guys i ride with have them already, but this year i think the rest of us are going to get them.

Excellent advise there Rob reps for you

The best beacon is the one your trained buddies have when you are burried.

X2.
My wife, daughter and I all have the Tracker. Luckily we have only had to use them in practice. We usually camp at the snowpark so in the evenings we'll take turns going out and hiding a beacon in the snow. They are very easy to use and get better with practice.

The most difficult part is to convince all of your riding buddies to get beacons, probes and shovels.

Check out: www.snowbigdeal.com

We're also planning on being at Haydays if anyone wants to stop by and test them out.

We do offer package deals if you're looking for more than one.

PM me with questions!

People need to not only have the equipment and exactly how it works but also a good knowledge of the concepts of avy activity so that you can functionally perform a rescue. When the zhitstorm hits will you be able to perform? Educate, practice, re-practice, and drill. Just finding a beacon or a burial is only a small portion of what goes on in the emergency. Design your drills as life like as possible. (being an expert shot at the range does not make you battle ready) Remember the life you save might very well be MINE!

I have a brand new BCA Tracker that I bought for my girlfriend. She is no longer around and the beacon is brand new, never used, still in the box . Make me a reasonable offer

If people refuse to buy probes and shovels make them carry yours.
The fact that you carry one is of little comfort if you are the one on the bottom of the slide. If they don't think it is important they won't mind
if you can't dig them out if they are buried. People seem to quickly forget that you don't carry avy equipment for yourself, You carry it for your riding buddies.

Great way of saying it. Living in the west where everything is avy country, I don't know why some people are so reluctant to get the gear, get the education and practice. On most trips I am riding with my wife or daughter. The thought of one of them getting buried gets to me.

I own a bca tracker and a pieps dsp. I like the pieps better, I really think it is easier to use and when practicing with them at the field that snowbigdeal helped build last year I am faster with the pieps every time.
