Avalanche bags

ABS airbags use nitrogen charge but when the bags deploy, they are not filled with straight nitrogen. A venturi system uses the nitrogen to suck atmospheric air into the bags. Besides, the air we breath is 78% nitrogen anyway. Using an airbag with a nitrogen charge vs. air charge is not an issue.

Very good point! The volume of air that fills the bag comes from the atmosphere. The BCA bag uses the same ejector (venturi) method.

ABS 15SB is barely big enough for a shovel, probe, beacon, and some food and tools. I use it for snowbiking

I hope no one is carrying their transceiver in their backpack on the mountain. Hard to get to and it comes off your person if you take off your pack to get something out of your pack. Transceiver needs to be on your body and not in a backpack. Sorry if I misunderstood and you were simply pointing out how much it holds for the truck ride to the slopes, but didn't want anyone to, even for a second, think about keeping their avy transceiver in their pack rather than strapped to their body (under their shell).

Yeah, I think I saw some literature that said that about half the air is pulled in and the other half from the canister. Not entire sure if that percentage is a fact, but definitely a mix.

Any scuba store or firehall can fill up canisters with nitrogen for you. Might need to know someone at a firehall if you go that route tho.
