Av 100LL Question

I am putting a Pump Gas BD turbo kit on my 2011 M8 w/o the cooler. I ride half the time in Revy/Valemount BC (6-6500ft) and half the time in Sask at 1500ft. I want to run some sort on high octane fuel in Sask to prevent detonation but feel I am to tight to spend the $4/L on VP-C12. So I bought some Av 100LL and was told not to run it because it is to dry and will cause a lean effect? Any truth to this? Anything I can do to fix this with an additive?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance. Shaun

That is a wives tale. 100LL is perfectly fine to run and is a GREAT 100 octane fuel. I ran it all last year at 8-9psi with NO problems. Engine looks like new inside.

May I ask what head you are running or plan to run??

100LL is just fine I have had nothing but great performance out of it.

I have a 2009 head installed. I have been told to run 4psi max a 1500ft. I am thinking I can run boost up until my knock sensor starts to go off then back it off...?
I hope the BD EBC runs as well as they say it will. If it does should be a dream set up if the AV 100LL works well.

Thanks for the reply's!

You can start low yes and work your way up also from time to time watch how much fuel or injector you have left. I am not sure if your kit is new or used or who you got it through but I am sending you a PM as well so let me know if you have any more questions.

Also make sure you are getting the low psi actuator or the custom made adjustable actuator so this will allow you to lower that boost down low as well as still have the range of swing to take you into the higher levels if you ever ride up high.

av gas

how hard is it to purchase av gas? can you just go to the airport and fill up your jerry cans or a drum?

I think you need a pilots license to buy here anyway. I just buy it from a buddy who has a hanger close to town. I could even drop a drum off and get it filled when the truck comes around. $1.35L is hard to beat compared to C-12.....

I think you should just run straight 100LL, try to find out what boost levels guy's are running at elevations (do a search) and do a calculation for the lower elevation... In my opinion with all the money you have into er it's not worth the money saved trying to run pump or mess with mixing. And I've heard the knock sensor doesn't always save the motor... You can still burn er down! It's not a tuning devise.

Personally I'm going to suck it up and just run 110...

There is no dollar figure on the smile I'll have on my face wheelying through the deep stuff at 14 PSI:D

Oh my god I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Dubbs, don't use your knock sensor as a tuning devise. Watch your air fuel gauge and tune with that, or EGT, whatever you are most comfortable with.

Dubbs is correct i squeaked a piston last year sensor did not go off. Watch your gauges and like mentioned above when you spend that much money boosting a sled the fuel is not wear you start to cheap out.

and Dubbs .......an OVS Tial Turbo and I see you bought a turbo pipe and Intercooler . You can crank it a lot higher than 14 now:D:D

I was just at my local airport the other day, looks like if you have a credit card you can just stop in and fill up, I think it was under $4.00 per gallon too. There is a site somewhere with airport locations and cost for fuel but I can't seem to find it.

100ll

i found it in scappoose oregon for 3.95/gal
they said i only need to sign a waiver that states i wont use it on the highway.
he said i could fill my 55gal fuel tank i have in the back of my truck, no problem, i can get it 7 days a week 8am-dusk.
sounds like it will be pretty easy to get....

I just go in and fill at the airport here. In Bozeman or Billings you just go up there and tell them you need some 100ll and they will take you out and get it never had a prob at any airports around my area. I run it in atvs bikes and sleds no probs in over 5 years running the 100ll

Oh man!!! This year is going to be ridiculous! Got the new pipe and intercooler, ZBros front end with the X1's (40") Easy ride skid with 156 Camo extreme 2.5 to try out. The snow just can't come fast enough!!:face-icon-small-hap

Looking forward to hearing how your propane kit works for ya! Maybe that's where I'll be blowing my money next summer:tongue:

Hey! Would be cool to hear what kind of boost guy's are running on 100LL and whether any head mods are done... Seems like a lot of guy's reading the post are quite experienced with it.:focus:

whats the highest safe boost on av gas 12lbs or are there people doing 14lbs on av gas and I'd really like that web page with all the prices on av gas in differnt states thanks

I can run my 2010 M8 w/ stock 2010 head on 12lbs running straight 100LL. I haven't pushed it farther than that. That's at about 8500'+ I don't push it till I get that high. I start at about 10 lbs in the parking lot and the Boondocker EBC has the boost close to 12 when I get up to where we ride.
