Assault RMK Back East - Set Up Questions

Just picked up my Assault today. It says it is calibrated for 6000 to 8000 feet. Not surprising considering it is supposed to be a mountain sled but here I am at about 500 to 1200 feet ASL. What exactly will "calibrating" it for this elevation do? I don't want to make it so it is geared up so high it will be an issue in deep snow since I do plan to ride in deep snow, just not at high elevation.

Also, they took my scratchers off at the dealer and put on some wheels. I have way more idler wheels than I thought I would from looking at brochures and such. They said I couldn't have the idler wheels and scratchers at the same time? Anybody else running both? I suspect I might want the scratchers but it is a good idea to have the wheels as well so not sure what to do.

Any other tips? Now I have to wait a few months to ride. :face-icon-small-ton

put your scratchers back on, I have 2 sets of outside bogies, and the scratchers in the middle. thats what i'll be running. Maybe add a long snowflap from PDP to help keep snow in and help keep it cool... other than that change your weights to 10-68s or something equivalent and it should be ready to rock! :face-icon-small-coo

two buddies have the RMK assaults, well over 1500 miles on each-trust me you need scratchers in the northeast even with the plentiful snow we had last year. The sleds actually have pretty good trail manners, went with the SB Assault myself and I will be running scratchers on that as well with the " track. you will love that sled, might be one for me next year.

I run my RMK back east as well. You need to run 10-68 clutch weights, all else stock. Absolutely loose the idler wheel set and put the scratchers back on. Other than that, ride it. Your going to love the sled.

Check out sledtheeast.com, you can see my RMK in action in ME/NH. I appologize for my shameless plug :)

Thanks guys. I will definitely put the scratchers back on then. Thanks for the picture of your sled as well, that helps. The guys at the dealers around here don't know much about Mountain sleds, which is understandable. As you say I looked up what the change for this elevation is and it said the only change was to the weights, 10-68 for 0-600 ft. and 10-66 for 600-1200 ft. I think perhaps 600-1200 would be more accurate for me as I ride up in the Allagash area and I know alot of the lakes there are right around that 1000 ft. mark. What do you guys think?

Cool site man, I will check it out. Looks like they could be photos from the trips I go on. :) Where do you usually ride in Maine?

we ride out of pittsburg nh and over to the rangeley area basically.

Cool, I'm more up in that NW corner of Maine myself usually. Near Churchill Dam.

I guess I have two questions now. Should I run 10-66 or 10-68 weights? And if I am running 91 Octane 10% Ethanol fuel at 500 to 1000 feet, do I dare run the sled in "Non Ethanol" mode or should I be safe and stick with the 10 % ethanol plug?

I would run the 10-68s and if there is ethanol in your fuel you should def run the ethanol plug.

10-68.. Or Maybe 10-69 Custom weight from a 10-70 sanded down to a 69 Grams of weight..

Had good luck with the 10-66 Belly Busters and the Blue/Pink SLP Spring..

I run with the NON eth.. plug in.. i run 91 oct or plus.. if i think the gas is a little low on oct. i add Lucas Fuel Treatment.. really good Oct booster!!

In my experience back east, the sleds will pull a full 2grams heavier on the weights compared to what Polaris recommends. I'd run the 68's, and check your r's. If they're down slightly maybe grind them down to a 67, but I think you'll like the added pull on the low end of a heavier weight.

i would def keep the ethanol plug in, maine was notourious for crappy fuel a few years ago. it actually bit my buddy last season. i'm still waiting for mine to show up, i was hoping mine would be here soon seeing that yours came in.
