arctic cat 500 mile review

i have replaced the probes before on our 2 m turbos, but that was due to the leaded fuel, this sled is still on warranty , cats buying me a new probe on thier dime, just sucks that we got up super early to get all the deep virgin sno, have to return to the truck right away, and have to take a day of work this week to drive 240 kms to see the cat vet again for the 4th time this winter, than wait over a week for parts than blow another day to get the cat back from the vet.
The secondary has never been apart, neither was my nephews. ill have a tied in my hands by next week.

i hear ya..
yep through all the years the dealers always said...just drop it off and we will have a look at it etc etc..

that dropping it off was never a viable option, i was to far out of town etc etc...so we all in our parts just lived with the issues and did all our own wrenching..in the old Wildcats and Exts we cold do a piston on one side in the dark with a flashlight...lol..

We all rode together...wrenched together..and the mishaps/breakdowns and adventures we had to take in as part of the enjoyment of our rides just because ..well...we had to..lol.

but not all peoples employment is flexible either..and if they miss that bluebird day its a day thats gone..so yep i know where people come from when they have issues and just can't see another day thats nice and just go..:face-icon-small-fro:face-icon-small-fro

Had my secondary apart many times and no prob with bolts, prob because there never in long enough to come loose.

Its funny how some people have a ton of problems yet others such as myself have not had one issue. Happy to say over 800 miles in the steep and deep with original belt.

With the exception of mechanical failure, I say it's all riding dicipline. Those of us that burn 10 gallons in 3 hours, and stay WOT as long as possible pay for it in belts.

I'm probably 260 with all my gear and blow 2 belts a year (avg) and only see 6 -700 miles a season. As hard as I try I can't find any reasons to blame the sled.

Go cry about it somewhere else, the ****s given here are few and far between. No one will deny theres issues, but the last thing i want to hear is someone bitch and whine.

This is the great thing about being a premium member, he can do whatever he likes he paid for the right.

Why should he not say anything with all the problems he has? I realize you greenbleeders are really touchy about the subject of how well your sleds all work, but for F***s sake, take the good with the bad. It is always frustrating have a massive problem with your sled(especially this many when he hasn't hardly had a ride without a problem).

That said, reliability with most sleds is not great. If you want something indestructable go for a yammi. Regardless, I would probably sell the sled and buy another(a/c) and hope for better results. It seems like yours was poorly put together.

im with you on this one, but the funny thing is, since 1989 ive rode big cats and ive replaced more clutches and belts , and it still surprises me that cat cant make a clutching system that will last and work properly, pol is teamed up with team, and its funny that i have to resort to a team clutch to have belt life longevity and have good clutching performance. Its pretty clear that cat cant design a good clutch and maybe its time they turn to a aftermarket company to supply them with clutches.

I was out again today and a fellow rider snapped his belt while riding in the ditches, replaced the belt, and no go, his secondary calved just like mine, helix broke, that's 3 that Ive been involved with in the last 4 weeks, and the crappy thing is, theirs no recall as of yet, his sled is still in the hills, I'm gonna head out tomorrow with a tied to get him home, now he's gonna be down for at least 2 weeks only to get another junk cat secondary.

Everyone's helix bolts are backing-off. Mine sheared off 300 miles ago too. Grenaded the clutch, took the belt with it. I guess what do we expect, they're being held together by Ming Ling's chopsticks

I'm guessing it's because the clutches get so hot that they melt the red locktite, allowing the chopsticks to vibrate loose. Best to check them after every few tanks.

everything that happend to your sled happend to mine, besides i went thru 8 belts in 2000 miles, cat wouldnt do anything so i bought a pro. my buddy has a pro with 2000 miles and hasnt spent any money on it

not to mention my hand warmers never worked. my primary blew out in 300 miles. my secondary fell apart twice. and the sled would bog down with a 1/4 tank left, i couldnt take it anymore.

Not to piss anyone off but maybe there should be a new forum section for problem sleds of all brands. They all have issues. Titled "Sledding".
