Apex turbo question..

I am looking at trading my 09 xp for a 06 apex with a boondocker turbo. My guestion is what kind of of maintenance am I looking at on a 5 year old turbo sled. It has 1500 miles on sled. No idea how much of that was turbo. I love my xp but would love more power. Any advice on what I am gaining or losing by going to the apex? Its running 18 pounds of boost at this point. I have been out of ridding for about 10 years and this is my first year back and picked up my xp. Thanks for any feed back.

theres alot of factors to consider, 1500miles is nothing for an apex espicially the motor. and the chassis are pretty strong and durable. but the turbo install and sometimes make or break the reliablity. it can either be turn key and ride all day everyday with minmal problems or there could be lots of tinkering that needs to be done if the turbo setup is notforming as good as it should be. If your out of the loop on turbo yamahas and such i would suggest that you take it to someone who is knowledgable about sleds and turbos. Let them have a good inspection with the sled, this could save you many possible headaches and allow you to enjoy awesome power and reliability of turbo yammies.

tell us alittle more about the setup and whats the price cause there is alot of turbo sleds out there for sale at great prices, personally i wouldn't own a boondocker sled just cause all the issues that goes with the setup along with the fact they don't make that great of power with that log style header is pretty restrictive. everyone has there opinions but i would shoot for impulse, mcx or diamond S setups seem to run flawless. i'm not saying don't buy it but ride it and at 18lbs u should see some serious speed around 80-90 mph climbing

I was thinking the same thing. Thought about running by one of the turbo guys in the area and double checking things. The guy seems to be on the up and up. He said its dialed in but I do know alot can go wrong if its not done right. Has been turboed for a few years at least from what I gather. Just said the guys he rides with like the trees and boondocking and he wants some a little more nimble.

Well all I know is what he told me tonight. By no means am I seriously doubting anything he said. Just don't know enough about the turbo sleds. Just ran across the add. He wants 7200 outright. I wasn't looking for a turbo but now am thinking about it since its a simple trade. Its got some bolt on stuff like skis risers and boss seat and such. Said it's the 2860 or 61 turbo? Chaincase was replaced once and is running a heavier chain? Looks like a mostly stock sled with a turbo and some bolt on things.

if its been turboed for a few years theres a good chance that the sled is running well as it seems install problems show up earlier on, and people don;t generally ride a crappy running sled for mutiple years. But you will need to check the basics like oil/coolant hoses fittings. inspect intake/exhaust for cracks in welds or other damage due to high heat and pressure. make sure the turbo is also in good condition, it should spin freely and smoothly by hand and the impellers should not be able to move around at all and possibly contact the housing. Check the brake also as its subject to high heat due to header design and placement.

get yourself somewhat familair with 4 strokes and turbos, Know how it works, how to adjust your system with fueling. If you get an idea of how everything works and how its supposed to run you will know what to watch for and prevent most possible failures.

if the sled passes inspection go for it and go ride.

Well said by all above. Check your fuel lines too! Specifically between the fuel pump via the rail. These lines break down quicker than most think. Last thing you want is a $10 line melting your electrical lines(wiring harness-pricey!).
