Anyone have an update for the Snowies?

Just got back from the Snowies. EXCELLENT snow on the backside, for sure. Almost has a decent base, as well....we are nearly there, boys. Thanks to Wyoguy for riding with us, I think it helped both parties in the long run.

The big damper on the day was on the drive home.....accident on 287 about 25 miles north of Fort Collins on slick roads, delayed us over 3 hours. Looked to be a head on, 2 fatalities. Gotta be careful everyone. With all the extreme there is in this sport, the most dangerous activity we do is drive to/from the hill......

The fatalities were both professors in the nursing department at UW. Thier names were Macnee and McCabe from what I understand from my wife who graduated from thier nursing program last year. Our condolences go out to thier families and friends. We can not begin to imagine thier pain.
287 between Collins and Laramie is a vicious stretch of road no matter what time of year it is. Even more scary when you are pulling a load of sleds. Be careful.

Good n deep (in spots)

We left Casper at 5 am and rode out of Ryan park at 8:15 am or so. We were making fresh tracks all the way to sandy lake. There we ran into a bunch 10 + that came up from the other side. The snow was decent; one of the guys in our group knows the mountain inside and out. We avoided the trails completely all the way to Sandy Lake and rode them back in the afternoon. The trail ride back was a good reminder of why we avoid trails until the groomers start working. The bumps we hell, and there were rocks in several places. The snow off the trails was at much as 4' in some places, and less in others. Enough to make for a couple of pretty good stucks. As always you have to watch for land mines in the snowies. Warm water and snow can be pretty scary. I forgot the camera as usual, so sorry no pics. :D

Not bad at all Today!

Rode out of Green Rock over to the west side today. The Trails were not great but I have seen worse. Need more snow on the east and top, but west side, we were pushing 12"-18" all day.

Just got up to our cabin - I would say 6-8 inches of fresh snow and 2+ feet over the last two weeks (we were up here two weeks ago and had the north deck cleared so that is what I am going off of)

Cold up here and lots of wind. -1.4 right now (4:37pm)

Will try to get some pictures up later.

Couple of pictures before sunset - the snowcat and deck were cleared 2 weeks ago.

pretty stoked,,,one week till our first ride of the season. Im trying to get as many trips in before I leave to go back to Iraq in April. Ill keep you updated on our trip of the 2, 3, 4th.

We got about 2 more inches (maybe 3 if you measure like a ski area) last night.

We stayed in the trees and drainages today and had a good time. There isn't much of a base, we hit a few stumps now and then but no big damage (as far as I know).

Did anyone ride up top today? We were thinking about heading that way tomorrow or Tuesday if the snow isn't all blown to Cheyenne......

Forgot to post pictures - we didn't take too many, we were too busy riding and enjoying the powder :) .....

We were up yesterday and today. The guy who said "Blowies" is right! It's definitely been windy lately. Worst we can remember in a long time. But today the wind wasn't as bad and it wasn't 25 below like the last couple weekends, so we got in several good hours of riding. Head over to the west side and go north. Still not the greatest snow, but if you get out through the trees and into some meadows, you can have some fun. My sister was riding our extra sled today and managed to uncover a huge rock and bent a trailing arm. Other than that, it wasn't too bad. There just isn't quite enough snow yet to completely cover all the rocks and stumps, so just keep an eye out for landmines.

It looks like they have a High Wind Warning through Tuesday morning, I think we'll stay down in the trees until later in the week.
