anyone buy a wrote off sled and didnt know?

hey all,

am just so frustrated and sad that you cant trust people any more...

heres the story...

got the turbo bug from watching burandt do what he does on them, so i set my sights on selling my well preped 07 800r which i loved!!!!

put up quite an investment and tried to find a 08-09 m8 with a turbo...

found a 09 m8 162 with a twisted turbo for 15500,but 6000km away...

so he sends me pics and everthing looks good...low milage and looks to be set up just how i want it..

so i fork over the 15500 cdn and pay 1400 for shipping

and while the sled is comming in i get

-cobra winsheild and headlight delete,float plate,holtz scratchers,fox roost guards,new c&a xtx skis,new 440 flap costing me more...
and order a drum of race fuel for $1000

so am stoked to get my new sled and put the goodies on it...but when i get it i notice the skis dont sit flat on the floor, and the steering post and running boards are tweaked...and overall condition of the sled looks beat down...

i didnt mind the bent post or boards...i can fix them fairly cheap, but i get in contact with the 1st owner, and he tells me how the bulkhead was bent, and he pressed it out and put a new plate for the clutches...oh yeah?...and it blows a belt every 100 miles due to the bulkhead flex he says!!!! also a 1/4 piece of rubber under the footwell on rh side to make the hood look straight...

so now i am into it for over 19 grand canadian, and i have a sled that dosnt run straight at all, and blows a belt evry 100 miles...and the last seller wont respond to me...

i only spent that kind of money without seeing it is due to the fact that i have only delt with awesome people here on snowest, and the guy seemed very decent retured all my calls...etc...and i did trust him...but look where that got me...

so whats my next step becides forking over the bones for a new bulkead and massive labour?> worth the money for court?

sorry guys just need to vent, and dont want to take it out on the people in my life....

thanks for listening...

What would that be in us dollars? Now if i had ot pay 15500 us dollars heck ya I would try to see if i could go after the guy in court. Try to get that much out. can you part it out and recoop your cost?

wow that sucks. was he a member here? where do you live and where did he live

yeah the 2 previous owners are members here,

sled was built in washinton, and sold to a guy in alberta canada when it had 1160 miles, then he sold it to me in newfoundland canada with 1195 miles...

it was beat up from 1st owner, and sold to the guy in canada and he didnt know about the damage when he got it...and he pawned it off on me...what a guy!

I feel bad for you but id never fork over that kind of coin for anything without :

looking at it my self, or having the guy take it to the nearest dealer for a independant inspection....just cant be 2 careful these days.

Oh it will be next to impossible for you to recover anything I know thats a hard one to take but all the seller has to do is say "uhg I had no idea" and its over. Sucks but id just start looking for a chassis and swap stuff out

This practice is called " passing the hot potato" in the car trade...happens all the time with fake/cloned muscle cars

It sucks that people can't be trusted, BUT I can't believe how many stories on here about buying stuff sight unseen.

Think about it, every day there are people on here posting questions about the simplest things like.

What oil to use, how do I adjust my belt tension, and other insanely simple stuff.

Now these guys don't have the first clue on the basic stuff, let alone all of the intricate stuff that can and will go wrong on a sled. Most wouldn't know if something was bent, cause they don't know anything about sleds in the first place.

Now, in your case it is obvious that the guy knew this sled was screwed up and he is a douche for not disclosing it, but you have nobody to blame but yourself for buying a very complicated and expensive machine that is primarily used off road (ie; rocks and stumps)and intentionally abused (having a blast, riding the sled for all it is worth).

Buyer Beware!

Wow, because there is such a dollar difference now...it would be approx $15 000 in us funds.

Thats a friggin raw deal man. Ive passed off some lemons.....BUT I gave full disclosure of the problems when I sold them.

Id post up names. Its not slander if its true. Plus it might save us from dealing with these less than honest people.

thanks for replys guys,

am trying to get in contact with prev owner to see if he will do anything for me...if not i will have no problem to post the names of both of the prev owners...

they will get what they deserve...i have emails that stat when i asked if it ever was damaged...is the sled straight...anything i will need to do before i hit the snow chassis wise...

If you bought the sled without inspecting it, or having someone you trust inspect it, you got what you should have expected. If you failed to inspect it, you should have expected the worst, and you didn't even have the worst happen. With all the scams that happen, you should consider yourself lucky to have even got the sled in one piece. It's people like you that make the scams possible, if everyone made sled purchases the right way, it would be way harder to have the bad deals happen and they'd eventually go away.

It's a sad time when we can't trust anyone, and find out the hard way that someone's word is no good. :face-icon-small-fro I try to look at people in a positive way, and not have to question everything they say as to whether or not it's the truth. I know I'm not the only one that thinks this way. The world sure is changing. :(

I know when we've sold a vehicle, or sled, I go out of my way to point out every little thing....probably too much so.......some people don't care about a little scratch right there on the back quarter panel that you can't really see unless you look hard. :o But I feel better about myself knowing I've disclosed everything I know.

Sorry to hear about your deal, and hope it can get worked out for you!!

Seriously, I feel bad for you, but it is what it is.
There isn't a thing you can do about it, except for swallow the pill, fix it up and ride it.
I don't see why the seller should have his name plastered on the internet, he made an internet ad up, and delivered the product. Unless the title is clouded, or salvaged it's your baby. Next time go take a look at what your buying.

i have bought a lot of sleds off snowest (10+ ) and I have yet to be screwed. A few havn't been exactly as advertised but you have to save lot of money to even think of buying sight unseen. Every now and then, a good deal turns out to be a break even.

You wil have to repair that bent tunnel before the belt costs eat you alive. You should have saved enough money in the deal to cover the repair.

i know i should of had it inspected, but the sled looked good in all the detailed pics he sent me...and he said it was clean, and really sounded like a awesome guy to deal with...made small talk...etc...

just the skis were always turned so you couldnt tell the skis bend inwards on both sides...i just seen the a-arms and shocks...etc were in good shape...didnt think someone would put new a-arms on a bent bulkhead???

going to tear into it soon and order up the parts i guess!

thanks for the vent all

I've played this game before and lost... lick your wounds, curse at yourself, fix the stuff and move on.

Nice guys/gals never win, you need to cover yourself in every way shape and form before footing out some hard earned money, especially in this day and age.

Very sorry to hear about this, I don't understand people. For me as a seller or a buyer, my name, ethics, and morals are worth more to me then bending someone over and taking them. What comes around, goes around.

See if FreeAgent can get you a whole chassis. I know she got one for a guy here and it really wasn't that bad. Swapping everything out really isn't that hard. It would take you a soild day or two to get it done. The tunnel coolers are really time consuming. Rebuilding it is a really good way to get to know the sled and you will have a chance to do everything right. The sled is what it is, fix it and ride it so it quits getting passed down the line. :beer;

$16387.0843

That is what he paid in US dollars for a USED sled, shipping and all. I don't see how somebody could say that he saved money in the deal. My buddy just picked up a new in the box holdover 2009 M8 Snopro for 8300.00, throw a turbo at that thing and he is into it for less than what this poor fellow dropped. For that kind of money I would have expected to receive an immaculate sled. He just plain got taken and I feel bad for him because he just plain lost 16 Grand. Now he's gotta spend 1000s more to make it ride-able. The seller should be hung out for the vultures by his nut sack.

Screwed

It's a sad day when we can't trust our fellow snowwest riding friends. You got screwed by someone we all would consider family on here. So I don't know abou the rest of you, but thats not the kinda family and friends I like to deal with. I say if he doesn't address problem with ya, post his emails to ya stating excellent blah blah blah and we will all be saved another learning experience with an expense. I'm really feeling for ya, and hope you can get up and riding soon. I can say the one thing that I so strongly believe in that will eventualy come back to bite anyone in the *** is called "KARMA" So good luck to ya my snowwest friend and hope you get to ride soon. PEACE OUT!!!!
