Anybody go from diesel back to gas, and still happy?

I went from a 04 Chevy 2500hd crew cab short box 6.0 to a 2015 Duramax, oh snap! who cares it cost 9k for a motor option! She is quick, even with 17k combined weight! Hope it is reliable, if I could get a 8.1 with the allison an this new fancy interior life would be good! I couldn't an 550 miles on 30 gallons diesel is way better than 210 miles an 24 gallons gas.

I own an 11 f-150 and a 15 duramax denali. If I pull anything, I use the diesel. If I need to drive anywhere empty I use the ford.

You guys raving about the 8.1 Chevy have obviously never ridden in an ecoboost.

My last truck, a 2011 f150 ecoboost would flat out spank an 8.1 chevy pulling and get better mileage doing it. No question about it.

Loved my ecoboost just not crazy about the 1/2 ton suspension

Wish they put that motor in an F250

That being said I'm pretty happy with my 14 Cummins. 2-3 mpg better then my ford and lot more stable towing.

I've owned an ecoboost and an 8.1, not sure where your getting the idea that the Eco will spank an 8.1? :face-icon-small-con

Time to wake up, no way a light duty ecoboost could out pull an 8.1 big block. Heck, the f150 tranny couldn't even come close to handling a load that the 2500 GM could.

Fast, yes. Heavy duty, no

Had an ecoboost for 30000 miles

Have had several buddies with 8.1s

There is no comparison IMO.

I've pulled a 3-4 place enclosed around 4000 miles with that truck all over the mountains.

I'm sorry to say but the ford ecoboost makes almost the same torque (420 vs 450) at a lower rpm and makes like 25 hp more. Plus at my elevations (4500-7500 ft) isn't loosing 15-25% of its power.

Having been in both trucks pulling trailers the ecoboost downshifts way less and pulls hills faster.

I really have no idea how someone could disagree?

Watch the tfl truck Ike gauntlet videos. Ecoboost lays a smack down to the gm 6.2 which is 420 hp and 460 ft lbs. I'm pretty sure that engine would outpull the old 8.1.

Doesn't really matter to me as I'm back in a cummins but im just stating the facts.

I will definitely say the 3/4 ton is more stable but no other stock gas engine is as a good of a towing motor as the ecoboost.

The GM 8.1 was a great engine. If I was buying an older truck this would be my towing engine of choice. It spanks the gm 6.0, ford and dodge v10s and is probably close to the newer 6.0, 6.4hemi and 6.2 ford.

The fact is the ecoboost shows how much technology has changed and the only replacement for displacement is boost.

Actually the ecoboost transmission seems to be pretty good

Also its wider gear ratio spread has much lower 1st gear then the Allison (4.17 vs 3.10) and I would consider its gear ratios superior to the Allison.

Again, the whole reason I got rid of my ecoboost is the light duty suspension.

I loved the motor. I think ford is missing out not offering it in the super duty. Or a twin turbo version of the 5.0 in a super duty would be cool.

Traded the Duramax for a gas and 27,000 miles later "disgusted" traded the gas for another Duramax. No more gas trucks in my yard.

They will probably have ecoboost available on all models soon enough.

i dont know about you guys but when i see a nice truck thats a gasser i get dissapointed and think "aww man that would be a sweet ride if it were a diesel"

My Cummins was paid for a long time ago! I bought it new in 03
I would not trade my 03 straight up for a brand new gasser.
To say I really like my Ten year old one ton 4 door 6 spd. diesel would be an understatement.
That truck owes me nothing. After 10 years I like it as much as the day I bought it. I get 24 mpg regularly and 14-16 towing and I tow pretty fast.

We are all going to have our favorites. (probably the one that's in your garage)

Bottom line is that they all are great. Not good, bur freaking fantastic.
My 1st new pickup was in 1986.
What a horrible time for US made vehicles.
GM was promoting the hell out of the 4.3 v6 in full size pickups. Ford did the same with their 300 straight 6. To make up for the anemic performance it would usually be mated w/manual trans.
At one point I had a '87 Ramcharger with a 318 which wouldn't pull a sick whore off a piss pot.

To bad gm won't step outside the box a little, they got a twin turbo v6 pushing 410hp in the caddy xts but don't seem to like to try anything different when it comes to trucks. That motor would probably take a bit of wind out of the ecoboosts sales if they slapped it in the 1500.

picked up a 2014 ecoboost cc sb yesterday. so far i love it for driving around town. i have a 4 mile commute to work so my mileage is always much lower than others (10.6 in my psd) and ive been at about 15 the last couple days. warms up quicker, smooth, quite ... so far im happy with the switch. going to pull a decently heavy dump trailer loaded this weekend (approx 6-7k) so we'll see how it does.

I'm pretty lucky and have the best of both worlds a 2013 F150 5.0 and a 2005 Cummins 6 speed manual that is not very stock. The F150 is my daily driver and I commute 100 miles round trip everyday and I since the day I bought it I have said its the nicest car I have ever owned. It drives nice, has a great ride, gets 18.8 mpg at 80 mph. With that said it still wouldn't want to tow my 28' Mirage everyweekend with it. It really isn't about the power either. I have towed the trailer empty with my half ton a few times and their just isnt nearly enough suspension even with the trailer empty. Put 4 sleds in it and it wouldnt even want to drive it on dry roads. My diesel you don't notice the trailer is even there with 6 sleds in it, will do 100 up any hill loaded if you dare and is my sports car when not towing and i just want to play with the imports. I wouldnt want my diesel as my daily driver though either so pick your poison what do you do more of commuting or pulling?
