Anybody else layed off?

oh yea... as im sitting out here in colorado while at the end of my being laid off stint... hanging with some buddies working out here.. theyre living in employee housing and damn all i've met are people from south america... theyre cool but sh|t quit giving out so many work visas and maybe the unemployment rate would go down... at least in colorado.
0h yea... we rented from a guy for awhile who was rich as ****.. private jet type ****.. he owned a landscaping business and hired over 100 mexicans each summer... nothing wrong with making money but making it off of illegal immigrant work is a bunch of bull****

Laid off since Jan. Companies got their filters and gate guards up full swing. Submit a resume and don't get as much as a phone call or letter back. Try calling and leaving messages and get the standard message of well call you back if interested. Read so much about job searching and tried so many different tactics it's frustrating. Local news did a story a few weeks back and reported 1 out of every 7 people in this town are unemployed. Unemployment income amount is kinda a joke but better than nothing. If wasn't for living w girlfriend I'd be screwed and if she looses her white collar job we are.

Yep, now is not a good time for defense contractors.

That side of things is doing OK with the exception of the Minute Man program ending where I work but the Commercial / NASA side is hurting a bit from budget cuts. They are laying off 300 by the end of the month with rumors of more to follow.

I came out here from 15 years in the auto industry in the Detroit area and after a couple lay offs, I wanted out.

Just joined the laid off boat 2 weeks ago. Moved out to Colorado for Landscape Construction, and it finally dried up here in Telluride. Its funny how a company can have you on salary and cut you to hourly without hours ...then expect you to stick around until summer when we have work.

Almost blew my lid.

See you boys in Minnesota

Sucks to hear all of you guys having a tough time. Here in ND we are in a bubble and everything is pretty smooth. A large telemarketing company just announced they are closing the doors and about 250 people are out of work. The reason they are closing is because they can't find enough people to work. I heard they wanted a workforce of nearly 600. Just a few months ago our Wendy's was only open for drivethrough at night because they couldn't find enough workers.

Comercial airline industry is struggling.
Barnes and Williams have laid off a lot, we had a layoff a month ago but only lost 20... Another layoff coming first of april and will be at least 75.
So far Boeing has not backed out orders, but if they do it will be even worse.
I have been in I think 5 layoffs since 9/11, and made it each time.
Does not mean I will make it this time though.

oooooooooooooooh! Colorado gives us a maximum of 475 a week. That isn't even a fraction of what I was making before.
Mont is 432 a week...for 14 weeks...in my line of work the key is to stash money during the summer cause unenjoyment aint gonna cut it Dino

its WAAAYY cheaper to live in michigan

yeah, but then you have to root for the red wings! not a price i wanna pay!

475 a week equates to around 12/hr. in colorado, that wont rent you your old room back in your mom's house!

been lucky still working, But dont know from day to day. They layed off almost all the pipefitters, and half the electricians. Theres 7 fitters 8 electricians and dozen or so carpenters and laborers left. There was over 80 5 months ago. hope **** breaks loose soon. Need job to buy all the goodies for new sled :)

Been laid off since Feb. Its sucks and is B.S.

Had an interview with Montana Rail Link, and am headed out for work in a few weeks, so I lucked out.

Unemployment drives me nuts, too much time on my hands to think about what I want to do.

Detroit is Hockey Town after all! :p There's always the Tigers, Pistons or even the Lions..... but not many actually pull for the Lions.

Good luck to everyone that is out of work and I seriously hope things turn around soon. I'm thankfull every day to still be working but still know that things change quickly.
