so i just bought a new 2012 pro 800 but im starting to regret it because of all the motor issue ive been reading about. im thinking i should have bought a 600 instead anybody else regret buying an 800 ?

Had 600 in the past could never go back to them after riding my 800 the last two years!! Just hope it snows this year so i can get on the new 13 soon!!!

Even though I have to do the top end in my sled .....I love it and would not have gone a different route.

Don't regret it it is a fun sled to ride and if you bought it new it is covered , pull the rope and ride . There are a lot out their that do not have any issues .

Ya, just get the extended warranty/ service contract and have a good dealer behind you, then if you have any motor issues (some do, some don't) you'll be covered.

no regrets

You may never regret buying an 800 but you will immediately regret buying a 600....everytime you hit the throttle you will regret it..especially at any altitude where they lose even more hp

Ride it, maintain it and you will be fine....

With all the 800 issues I bought a 13 600 pro. I installed a PA 13.6 head and Carl's clutch kit. If I want more power I will do 660 kit and still have excellent reliability with better power than stock 800. The only thing an 800 has proven is that they are unreliable.

This place is like the doctors office, its where people bring their problems so of course you tend to see alot of posts of problems, which is natural and normal to see this. I know of a ton of people who ride and dont know what snowest is or could care less, so I would say its a bit of a poor represenative of any manufacturer.

As far as the engine I would not regret it at all, solid engine and like any sled some will have there issues.

Warranty is always great no matter what brand. I had an XP, engine went on warranty, it happens. Same with the Pro 800 on warranty, but in both cases rode with a bunch of these sleds over a number of years of both brands and same results.

Dont sweat it.

Think of the ratio....how many guys on here that have engine issues vs ALL the other 800 Pro's out there. I know its hard to read about all the failures, but i sure sleep good at night with my '13 Pro 800 in my shop. No worries here.

Bleh, I bought one of the first 2011's in the area....had it snowchecked and started riding it as soon as there was snow 2 years ago. 2 full seasons absolutely trouble free and I still love riding it. Even if it blows up on the first ride this year....it will still be the most reliable sled I've owned to date. As sad as that is lol

You gotta take the "most reliable" vs the "least reliable" with a grain of salt when talking 2-stroke 800 class snowmobiles. Compared to anything else in the modern world, I would NOT consider 2-stroke snowmobiles "reliable." My 2006 Honda 450x is "reliable"....6 seasons and never had a brakedown or mechanical failure. I wouldn't expect 6 trouble-free seasons out of any sled, unless I had a burning need to feel disapointed.

You will never get the torque out of a 600 even with a 660 kit. you may get close on horsepower but not torque. you are wasting your time. Get into deep powder or on a climb and it will power out alot sooner. The only way you will be happy with a 600 is to put a turbo on it like our dealer did here. JMO from what we saw here all last winter.

im sticking with the 800 i just dont want to stress about the motor blowing like i did with my 09 800.

I've got an 11 Snowcheck Pro with the 4 year warranty.

Would I buy another one?Absolutely.Mine has been great no issues at all.The most enjoyable sled I've ever owned.

Since you bought it new I'm guessing you took the 2 year warranty over the $200 rebate? If that's the case don't worry till after the second year.Failure rates get blown out of proportion on a forum.People are more likely to tell you when their motor goes down, then when it has been totally reliable.

Think positive and hope you're in the majority.

don,t worry about it just needs a little extra love in the off season, still worth having because the pro really preforms off the trail sold my m1000 and really don,t miss it:face-icon-small-hap

i also had a m1000 mod and do not miss it one bit had my motor fail but i still love the 800 i was tossing the idea of a 600 but just cant go down i wil just do pistons and reeds every 1200 miles and rip it and still be way cheaper then all the small stuff i was replacing on my cat belts motor mounts every 400-500 miles gets to add up to more then a motor job in a season
