Any 09 Xp's blowing belts???

2009 xp 146x.
stock gearing
stock clutching minus set screw
clicker 4 @ 8200 all day
7500-10500 elevation
tons of venting

200 miles and belt started spitting cords out of it. Made a mess. Kinda bummed because I checked alignment and broke the belt in properly and still blew it. Very aggrivating! What the heck do I do now? Are the dealers still warrantying these belts?

thats what I was thinking, it might be time!!!! does orange go with blue???

4 belts in 5 rides here. Think we may have had it figured out on the 6th ride but someone tried to see if Green went with Blue... It turns out they dont!!!

I have 85 miles on original belt and all looks good so far. Not to be breathing that to hard. I have not been to hard or to easy on it, just checked for proper deflection and cleaned the clutches. 3ft. of powder today and all still looks good.

I do have insurance and just got the quote from the dealer, $7911.15, although I don't know what the insurance agenies (mine is State Farm) use as a percentage to use for totaling it. I guess I'll find out on Monday. Ride safe fellas.

my first one blew at 30kms, second one is starting to fray @400km's, first belt i heat cycled it 3 times, second belt 10 times atleast, and on the second belt I've been stopping every 10 or so mins of riding to cool both clutches at least to the point where i can hold them for 5 seconds. first skidoo i've owned but this machine doesn't seem like a functioning machine the way it is. I'd like to be able to ride for more than 5 minutes without heatsoaking the clutch springs and messing up the rpms. and blowing belts.
guy i ride with has gone through 2 belts and he's at 160km's

i took mine to the dealer to get it checked out and get a new belt, they checked alignment and said it was good. they said there might be oil residue left on the clutches. so they cleaned them and gave it back. clutches are still burning hot after 1-2 mins of riding in pow or 3-4 mins on trails.
not happy at all...
It is still obvious that Doo still hasn't got the belt issue dialed in yet. Doo has had big problems with heat issues hence the need for aftermarket vent kits where one basically has to "butcher" their sled and drill holes etc all over the sleds clutch side. I have been riding over 25 years and even going back to the 86-90 summits, they still have belt issues where belts are eaten every 100 or so km's. As an example my 98 Polaris 700 Rmk has gone through two belts in 2500 miles and this is just bacause they seemed old and dried out. It seems obvious that this problem is not going to go away anytime soon. I had a clutch alignment brace put on when I bought the sled back in 98 and have not had any problems what so ever.

Let us know when you are tired of buying belts and having to take it easy. ;)

yeah man i dont get it we went back out today 3 feet fresh pow kept my fun flipper on the bar all day long and belt looks like bran new , i dont get it /boggle

not sure if this makes a difference but when i changed out the blown belt yesterday in the heet of being pised off i put my new belt on backwards , kinda thinking ill leave it like that , if it works , dont fix it right ?

I have done lots of mods including gearing, and my o8 temps are down enough that I ahve close to 500 miles on one belt 300 last year and 200 so far this year. I do not see enough difference on the 09's to think that you can get away with out mods to keep them cool and from blowing. If you ride an xp expect to have to do tuning, but as far as that goes all sleds stock suck.

I have a DJ clutch kit, and vents in my 08. Just went over 800 miles on this belt, and it still looks good. Put the updated rollers, & bushings in the primary, and only have about 100 miles on them.

I have an 08 163XP and have done a gear change to a 20 tooth top gear and have installed the DJ clutch kit.

I have put 487 miles on my sled without blowing a single belt so far.

My brother has the same set up and has about 350 miles without blowing a belt.

I believe that the clutch kit is the single most important update to stop belt problems.

Doo offered a 19 tooth gear under warranty last year and I tried it but lost too much track speed. Changed to the 20 tooth and would highly recomend it.

My 08 now rocks and I am very happy with the performance thanks to DJ.

Later....

I also put a dj kit in my 09 summit. Made the clutchs way cooler, also put in vent kit. No problems and have 200 miles on sled. Would highly advise buying one.

Is everybody happy with the DJ clutch kit? I have an 08 146 xp with 200 miles, no blown belts yet but it's super hot in there. I had to go to clicker number 4 and in the deep stuff I am not getting the rpms. I have to wait 20 minutes to adjust the quick clickers since the clutches are so hot. I think this means it's only a matter or time before the belt meltdown.

Question for you 09 owners blowing belts:

Did your belt only blow when clickered up to gain rpms?

I wonder if this is causing too much slip and then heat to build which kills the belt.

Have just over 100 miles on my sled, the cord frayed at 50 miles. I don't think I was too hard on the belt. Clutches are wicked hot. I had cleaned the belt and clutch faces before the first ride. Haven't changed clickers, haven't had a chance to go full throttle long enough to be sure, but it hits right at 8200 when I do punch it.

Dealer says they (BRP) will not cover belts, clutching/gearing unless I pay them to open up the clutches and they find a warranty covered item that has an issue. I was the first one to complain to them of a blown belt on a 09. I asked if I blow the next belt what next...sounds like I'm on my own, which is what I expected to hear when I called.

Edit: I've ordered a vent kit from xxxmodrods, hope it comes in soon.

same here i blew 2 belts within a 100miles, just got mine back from the shop brought it in with 250miles, they replaced the whole sliding half of the clutch and 2 new belts!!. then i changed the spring to a pink/pink (230/350) and just got back from 3 days of riding, no belt issues, seems to be a little cooler, pulling harder and holding 82-8300, clicker 5, oh ya, also running 20t top and riding at 6000-8000ft

2 146 summit x's on annual Stewart x-mas trip. 1 belt disintigration on road in at 200km on machine. 1 down-hilling deep pow with with 340 kms on machine. Both belts completely blowing all cords and chunks of top. What a joke? There would probably be more belts getting done but a couple xp's have gone down helping out the belts odds?!!?!?

Have heard of a few now that had the clutch half replaced. What is the reason? I noticed on my 08 it is easier to 3m scuf one side than the other. Also the belt is warm on the outside but screaming hot on the inside. Anyone else.

Sounds like bull**** to me. They should atleast cover belts no questions asked on a sled with under 100 miles. If it keeps blowing belts they need to figure out what is wrong with it on brp's dime. Not yours.
My local dealer replaced belts no questions asked. All 6 or them. They would not do any thing to fix it though. I was going through stock 166 belts every 30 miles. I geared it and vented it and got 130 miles out of a 166 belt. I put a dj clutch kit in it and the 377 belt came out and I have over 400 miles on it.
When I clutched it the stock rollers were completly gone with 350 miles on the sled. Just a metal ring around the weight pins. No bushings in the rollers.
I would find a new dealer to warranty the belts for you.
