Any 09 Xp's blowing belts???

Ok, after my dealer stating they could not align it (I told 'em that it needed aligning - 2 belts in first two days...) they stated they would replace the spring cap and the other primary bushing.
Went to pick up my sled and they gave me a service bulletin # 2009-12 dated Dec 22. It simply gives direction on how to align and specs (x= 34.6 - 38.2, y-x= 2.1-3.9, z=18.5-23.1 for XP). I think these are the same as previous.
My dealer apparently did not have time to fix this for me so I tried. Mine was almost 10 mm out on x, so I removed 3 of 4 mounts and slotted them. I am still out by about 2-3 mm but I ran 3 hard days and no more belt issues.
I had to grind the frame down by the engine stopper as my ring gear was rubbing in my attempt to get the engine over to rhs by ~ 10 mm.
There is no direction (in bulletin) on modifying the current mounts to make the x,y,z measurements feasible, so it looks like you are on your own if you cannot attain it within the stock mount tolerances.

Good info. I'm dropping my sled off tomorrow at a diff dealer. The Issaquah service dept sounded way more promising and willing to get it taken care of. I know I'm headed toward clutching/gearing, but the dealer/BRP should cover the belt, make sure the clutches are in working order and verify alignment. I don't think that is too much to ask for.

Blew a belt at 35 miles. Took in to dealer they said to bad. Took to another dealer they found that the bushing in the primary was to tight and the clutch was engaging all the time. They are warrenting the belt. Guess i found a new dealer. They also told me that there was a batch of these that went out and ski-doo is aware of the problem.

What is the Bad Batch?? engine plate wrong?
rode with a 09 today that has blown 2 belts in just over 100 miles:eek:

Some good news, my "new" dealer says they fixed it, under warranty, belt was also replaced under warranty. Something about zinc coating on the arms causing them to stick, they cleaned and polished. Said that the 09s shouldn't have that issue as the 08s did, but this is the 2nd one they've seen. I'm just glad it was covered under warranty for the labor and belt. I did pay for the new secondary adjuster & install that was supposed to be on all 09s. I'll post back if I keep having issues.

Just wondering if anyone has taken laser temps of clutches. Last sled was an 04 summit rev never had hot clutches, my 09 154 can't touch either clutch after 15 minute ride.

8700 rpms, holy wow, I just got back from a ride in Truckee on my 08, I had to switch clickers to 4 and still can't get to 8000, this is with the gear change and all 11 million 08 updates.

What the H does the gearing have to do with your RPM's... you need a good tuner-dealer, or figure out how the clutches work...

i had an 08 last year and after 1800kms on it through out the season i blew 11 belts. brp only gave me warranty on the 166 belts and swore up and down that the 377 belt was the absolute fix and therefore said it was my riding not the sled that kept it blowing belts. i had drilled the side panel with a 1/4 inch drillbit all over for venting and removed the plastic part of the clutch cover as well as butchering the cover with a hole saw. brp also had to rebuild my primary 4 times on warranty. i was also lucky enough to break the driveshaft at 350kms.

Those tolerances seem a bit large to me, here is what I have X=36.4mm +/-.5mm, Y= 3mm of X, Z=21mm +/- 1mm distance Y MUST exceed distance X.

yeah man i dont get it we went back out today 3 feet fresh pow kept my fun flipper on the bar all day long and belt looks like bran new , i dont get it /boggle

not sure if this makes a difference but when i changed out the blown belt yesterday in the heet of being pised off i put my new belt on backwards , kinda thinking ill leave it like that , if it works , dont fix it right ?

Thats too funny; I did the same and after 690 km I am not about to change it!

Not to hijack the thread, but sorta in the same direction... Anyone out there try belts from another supplier (Carlisle, Gates, Dayco, etc) on their XP and have anything to report on longevity?

3 - 2009 Summit X 800R 154" Blowing Belts

I have a 2009 Summit X 800R 154" with 450 miles on it and am on my 3rd belt. My dealer has covered the "faulty belts" but I feel there is more of an underlying issue than that. I have the correct and updated belt and had my clutch aligned and my dealer assures me there is nothing wrong with my bushings. I have not been over revving my sled at all and am actually well under the 8100 rpm recommendation for peak performance (I'm running around 7800).

A couple things I have noticed is that all of my belts have not broken or exploded they have all peeled off the top half of the belt. I have been able to ease off and limp to a safe or more convenient spot to change the belt. The other thing I noticed is when changing the belt, it is so hot I cannot touch it for more than a couple seconds at a time. I have to wear heavy gloves to shelter my hands from the heat of the belt and as soon as I get it off I set it in the snow to cool it off. I have wondered about the possibility of too much heat in the clutch area but again my dealer states he doesn't feel that is an issue. Any ideas would be most helpful.

I also have two other friends with identical sleds to mine that are having the same issue. The one sled is on its 4th belt with 650 miles and the other has 500 miles and on his 3rd belt. The sled with the 650 miles had the bushings replaced and we just blew the first belt after the replacement with only 150 miles since the bushing replacement and new belt. We all feel there is an underlying issue that is causing this and are all disappointed at how slow BRP is in resolving/addressing the issues. Again, if anyone has any comments or suggestions, please let me know so I can get this resolved ASAP.

The running joke in our group is how many miles we can get per belt!! At our current calculations, we figure belts are costing us $0.50 per mile!!!!

Thanks in advance for any assistance you may have.

blew my first belt at 680 miles - completely exploded. Als cheap plastic deflection adjuster busted. I guess i was lucky to get the old style adjuster?

i have an 08 with all the 09 clutching and blew my first 377 belt this year at 1100kms on sunday but we were riding 3 feet of powder and it took 20 minutes on the bar to finally blow it apart. but it was worth it thanks to the snow gods!!!

I put about 600km last year on my 08 xp and blew 4-5 belt. This year went out and put on a team clutch and have about 400km and no problems. Not only no belt problems this sled now rocks .:)

Bushings

I had bushings that were bad in my clutch. My Dad also. Have dealer replace bushing and adjust clutch. Working like a charm now.

I have a '09 XP been running the Gates belts, my first blew 75 miles, clutches stuck with the bushing issue first ride out, hubby cleaned em all up. Got about 600 miles on blew another, and today another.......I am at 1050 miles....urgh, I even tried to cool the clutches every so often....makes me sick, my '06 never had a issue :(. I now have a bogging that comes and goes at higher rpms, who knows what that is it started today as I was climbing a hill, thank god I was on a hill that was easy to turn out on.
