Airframe running boards

ya they're pretty nice once you get them on no snow build up at all but installing them was a pain. they include all the screws for grip but no hole drilled in the tube so you have to try and drill 200 holes on top of the tube and keep them all straight so it looks good. PITA. Definitely nice in the long run with the grip and zero snow. For the price it would be nice if they pre-drilled it or included a jig or something.

I love them! They are the best mod you could do to a stock sled! The install aren't so bad either, let it take it's time and measure twice cut once. :)

where

These things looks bad a$$ and seem like there is nothing close to them in terms of performance.
Where did you guys buy these from? I need to order a pair.

They are the best mod you can do for traction and eliminating snow build up.... Also, if your not a small guy, they are incredibly stronger than stock!!

Pic of them..

AirFrame Running Boards

I installed mine in the same way that Christopher here on the Forums installed his by using structual adheasive and rivets. It did take a lot longer than I had planned for but the final fit and finish is first class.

The tunnel & AirFrames Boards are very solid, no flexing at all. Grip/traction is 10 times better than stock, snow/ice sheds off the boards and sets the standard for running boards. They are best running boards that I have seen or used. SPG Skins Protective Gear is an inovative company.

oh ya....

You will be very happy with the Skinz Air Frame boards. Install was not a big deal for me and I'm no pro by any means. 1)Take your time and check everything twice before you cut. 2)Keep everything clamped(secure) before you drill and rivet(GET A RIVET GUN) When the time comes for the screws just have a good look at what pattern you think will work and mark it all out. I did not use nearly all of the screws in the bag, in fact maybe half. They send a whack of screws. Be carefull when screwing into the smaller parts of the frame so you dont over-tighten and strip the tube.
Would be nice to have black rivets if your getting the black boards cause the ones they send are all shiny. I'll attach a couple of pics to this but I'm sure you know what they will look like already(excuse the brand ok)M8 Boards 1.jpg

These were my concerns with the Airframes.

#1 - These boards are wider than stock. Which will hang up more in deep snow.

#2. - The traction screws coming loose. It doesn't take much torque when installing these to strip them out.

#3. - The round bar design will not give much protection from trees, brush and snow. When using strachers how much snow is going to get shot back up through the boards? Also when riding through small trees and brush there is no defense or blockage to keep the trees and brush from hanging up and going through the boards.

#4 - Initial cost and labor intensive to install.

I'm not saying that the Airframes are bad, just stating my reasons why I chose to pass on getting these and go with something else.

your concerns were unfounded. initial cost is higher than most but they work better than any other board I've seen or owned so IMO that makes the others over priced.

With a couple hundred miles on them now in both deep and not so deep snow i noticed zero difference

#2. - The traction screws coming loose. It doesn't take much torque when installing these to strip them out.
This also does not seem to be an issue. i've checked them and none of them are loose. thought maybe vibrations might loosen screws, so far not an issue. more miles will determine this better.

from what i can tell, and i was specifically checking, no snow from the scratchers comes into the running boards. you might have a point on the trees and brush but i ride a lot (unfortunately) of alders and have had zero issues. again, more time/miles will provide more info.

actually if you include new side bars to the cost of any of the other brands the price is competitive. plus the added strength and rigidity are outstanding. i really didn't think the install was all that bad. no matter what brand you get you have to do some cutting. regardless of brand, measure many times and cut once!

absolutely. everyone has their own needs/desires/budget. for me the airframes are the way to go, no doubt about it. the only real "negative" could be the traction screws taring up the bottom of your boots faster. but i'm not sure how bad my boots were before i put them on. will probably have to buy new boots next year but i'm not positive it is from the airframes. i have considered filing the edges on the screws down a little. it woudl provide just as much traction but wouldn't be so sharp. plus i have plenty of extra screws that came with the kit if i screw (no pun intended :) ) something up.

enjoy
