airbox intake question

probably a dumb question, but are you supposed to drill through both layers on the upper middle and the 2 outside vents when installing the new kit?

it seems kind of odd that the housing would run in and out like that...or did i screw something up.

You're fine. Those "extra layers" are the baffles that sit inside the intake. The air will all go to the same place when it dumps into the airbox.

I did mine last week and ended up taking the air box apart and ditching the air horns from the recommendation of a previous post. The included instructions to vacuum out the plastic is ridiculous.

Along with an hps can I was quite happy. Just got about 175 miles near Bachelor this weekend for a break-in.

i installed the kit and wondered about hole sawing through those parts as well. i took my upper airbox apart and cleaned out all the plastic shavings. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING THAT. there is NO way you are going to get all the plastic vacuumed out and will end up ingesting a bunch of that crap. even disassembled, it took some time to insure it was all cleaned out.

If your careful not to cut into the baffles and only break through the top layer its possible to get all the shavings out with compressed air. As soon as you go to deep with the hole cutter its turns into a huge mess in there and the baffles have to come out.

if i am not mistaken, i believe the instructions call for you to cut the holes through the baffles. it is not that difficult to open the airbox. i'd drill the holes first, then take apart and clean out.
