Can someone post up some pics of air box solutions for the KX and SX bikes? and I keep reading about cutting the bottom of the air box off? How much do you cut off or do you just drill big holes?just got a SX and my KX had huge clogging problems, where is everyone getting the can looking filter ? Never had the issue with the berg as it was so easy to get to the filter to clean? My KX has been a PITA, and I assume my SX will be too?

sorry dont have any pics.I took my air box off of my 07 crf and cut out the bottom so snow cannot collect inside.i am able to stick my hand from under neath and clean out if nessacary.
running the supplied prefilter.then took stock filter cage and drilled small hole around cage and used saftey wire to make a sturdy form for prefilter to rest against.hope this helps:face-icon-small-win

Drill a pilot hole in the corners so you can stick a hack saw blade into it. 1.2". Then remove the entire bottom. About 4" up from the bottom so your cut is just below the intake boot. The more the better. Make it "wide open". Zero snow build-up and no fiddling with cleaning ever. If the bottom is not opened up enough, snow will stick to the sides and close off the hole and your box will fill again. There are good pic's of this on the best all around bike build thread.

Just did a search and can't find the 'best all around snow bike' thread is there another spot with PICs

The KX airbox is simple. It's two pieces, just drill the rivets out and remove the back piece. At the end of the season just rivet it back on.

Thanks removed the box and sure enough? What do you hold the back of the fender when you remove the back half, and do you leave the screen flame arestor

Your "roost guard" is gone. After you get it finished, I fab a piece of black plastic and rivet it to the back of the box as a snow roost guard. I run it down far enough to attach to the Mountain Horse frame. No more snow blasting the rear of your air box or engine. I cut the back fire screen out, then smooth the sharp wire ends with a file. That back fire cage builds a ton of ice.

Detailed pic's of this on the "Best all around" build thread.

SX pod filter by timbersled

Hey there I have been having the same issues. Couldn't decide what to do with my air box on the 2012 KX450F either...did some digging talked with Reagan Sieg seeing how he ran the KX450F for years running both a SX kit and a ST kit. He told me he just ran he SX pod filter right from Timbersled and had no worries with anything...no loss in power and no snow problems...so I ordered mine right from them just waiting for it to arrive now. I also drilled out the rivets on my air box so I can still use the sides of the air box so there is not such a big gap in the sub frame...now just have to build a roost guard so the pod filter does not get pounded by snow, will also help by keeping snow off the back of the motor! CANT WAIT FOR SNOW!!

I just looked on TS web site and cant find an SX POD filter is there a Part Number you have

SX pod filter

The part # for the pod and filter is 16-PP-951, and the part # for the pre filter is 16-PP-948...they are not listed on the website I called Timbersled direct. 39.50 for the pod and filter and 25.00 for the pre filer...

do it like this

air box mods or removal. this is a basic concept for the air box on pretty much any mx bike. simply the best and easiest way for best reliable running in any condition.

I thought I read that the stock air boot was sort of a tuning track and adding just a peice of Hose lost power, I know on the turbos it doesn't matter but on the NA ?

Not really

There is truth to that. But we have been running like this and u don't notice a difference at all. Mabe u could on a dyno but really u will never know. I have an option that allows use of stock boot also but this is bar far most simple.

has anyone tried removing the back half of the airbox on a crf450? i was thinking of doing that with frogskin vs cutting the bottom of the air box out.

i cut the bottom out of my 07 crf air box.works great.i did add a shield on bottom of box to prevent snow from track building up on backside of box.just using prefilter on stock cage.
