TRS boost power valve

Ok, so the whole point of this is to provide a seal against the "primary" air intake which the sled pulls air from when the sled is not under boost because the reed valves don't close all the way and you can back flow through them ...?


Trying to figure out what this actually nets me? Isn't air flowing through the reed valves no matter what even with the sled under boost?

No, the reeds are supposed to open when the throttle bodies require more air than the air box has available then close as the turbo builds boost pressure in the air box. So basically for initial throttle opening from low rpm. The power valve opens quicker and wider allowing more initial air flow to the motor then provides a better seal when the boost comes up. Makes for better low end throttle response, then no loss of boost pressure.
 
When I installed mine I wish I was able to run the sled at idle and actually see if it was open.
 
So really the whole point of this is to prevent boost back flowing through the reed valves? In that case, the waste gate would operate in a slightly more 'closed' position while the turbo was maintaining boost pressure at a slightly lower RPM?

I guess this leads me to two more question about how Polaris controls boost on these sleds, 1.) Is the waste gate an actual control valve or is it an on/off thing like the turbos of old and 2.) Has anyone actually been able to measure how much boost leak occurs with the factory setup vs. this setup?

Reason I am asking is because I'm wondering what if any tuning changes would need to be made ..... I guess I'm just sort of leary about tweaking my brand new expensive sled too much without really understanding whats going on :)
 
I believe TRS has a video showing how the factory reeds leak compared to his valve. My understanding is it helps the bottom end lag when not under boost but I’m sure TRS will answer your questions

If youre worried, dont install it, enjoy your stock sled with warranty. There is nothing wrong with that!

So basically off boost this valve will be open allowing the engine to pull in air directly through the valve that it cant get through the stock turbo and intake, when you start making positive pressure, the valve will close sooner, and create a better seal. This does 2 things: Provides a more consistent throttle, and also provides faster spooling.

The stock reed valve provides a "gulp" of air directly to the engine bypassing the turbo and charge tube(restriction to NA motor) at off boost throttle stabs. So wot from idle type things. The stock reeds don't open super well. TRS valve performs this function more efficiently helping bottom end response as the engine can take a bigger gulp of air allowing it to make power quicker. Make more exhaust flow and heat. Spool turbo faster. Pow.

Once turbo spools and reed valve closes its very common the oem reed block leaks. Boost leak bad. Trs valve no leak under boost.
 
Thoughts on the power valve vs intercooler? Trying to decide order of operations for mods this summer.

My current thought is
1. new pipe/can
2. clutching
3. Mapping adding a 2lb and 4lb boost option
4. Lightweight battery
5. power valve?
6. Intercooler?

I figure can/pipe/lightweight battery should drop me close to 20lbs. I figure intercooler would add a decent amount of weight though...
I dropped 21lbs on my Boost just with can and lightweight battery.
 
wonder if it would improve my bottom end. i'd hate to be wasting spray out of the box
